IPL Match 12: Chennai Super Kings register an emphatic win over RR
Chennai Super Kings proved their worth as they registered an emphatic win over Rajasthan Royals played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on
Monday.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and
decided to field first. Faf du Plessis played with intent putting pressure on
the RR bowlers while Gaikwad struggled with his timing. Gaikwad survived few
chances before Rahman dismissed him to get rid of him providing an easy catch
to Dube at mid-off. Faf du Plessis made the batting look easy along with Moeen
Ali. Faf du Plessis smacked 19 runs off Jaydev Unadkat’s over to put pressure
on RR. Chris Morris finally dismissed the dangerous Faf du Plessis to end a powerful inning. At the end of the first six overs, CSK scored 46 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Moeen Ali looked in decent
touch putting pressure on Rahman. CSK scored 66 for 2 at the end of the first
timeout. RR bowlers kept tight lines and lengths to Ali and Raina. In his first
over, Rahul Tewaita dismissed the dangerous Moeen Ali who tried to clear
boundary but gave an easy catch to Parag at deep midwicket to put some pressure on
CSK. Moeen and Raina added 33 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina took RR part-time bowlers
Tewaita and Riyan Parag putting them under pressure with big strokes. Chetan
Sakaryia did the damage for RR getting rid of Rayudu providing an easy catch to
Tewaita at sweep cover and then Suresh Raina to stall CSK progress. Rayudu and
Raina added 45 runs for the 4th wicket. At the end of the 2nd
timeout, CSK made 125 for 5.
After the timeout, MS Dhoni struggled initially against
Tewaita but hit some lovely shots to gain some confidence. Sakaryia got his 3rd
wicket dismissing Dhoni as one hand came out of the handle providing an easy
catch to Buttler at extra cover. Despite the fall of wickets, Dwyane Bravo and
Sam Curran played cameo knocks. Sam Curran and Shardul Thakur lost their
wickets in the form of run-out. Bravo hit a six off the last ball to help CSK
post 188 for 9 in 20 overs. In the last 3 overs, CSK smashed 45 runs.
Chasing 189 runs to win, Manan Vohra and Jos Buttler looked
in great touch taking on Deepak Chahar. Sam Curran bowled with accuracy dismissing
Vohra and RR captain Sanju Samson to put RR under pressure. At the end of the
first six overs, RR scored 45 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Buttler put pressure on
CSK bowlers especially Ravindra Jadeja. On the other hand, Shivam Dube
struggled with his timing. At the end of the first timeout, RR scored 70 for 2.
Ravindra Jadeja produced a peach of a delivery to get rid of
dangerous Jos Buttler. Buttler and Dube added 42 runs for the 3rd wicket.
In the same over, Jadeja dismissed Dube. Moeen Ali did the damage for CSK
getting wickets of Miller, Riyan Parag, and Chris Morris to leave RR in tatters
at 95 for 7.
At the end of the second timeout, RR made 105 for 7. Rahul
Tewaita and Jaydev Unadkat provided some entertainment with big shots. Bravo
got the wicket of Tewaita ending a decent 42 runs stand for the 8th
wicket. Thakur dismissed Unadkat giving an easy catch to Jadeja. CSK bowlers
restricted RR to 143 for 9 winning the match by 45 runs.
Chennai Super Kings 188 for 9 in 20 overs ( Faf du Plessis
33, Rayudu 27, Sakaryia 3/36, Morris 2/33) beat Rajasthan Royals 143 for 9 in
20 overs ( Buttler 49, Unadkat 24, Moeen Ali 3/7, Jadeja 2/28) by 45 runs.
With this win, CSK moved up to 2nd in the points
table. For his all-around performance, Moeen Ali was awarded the man of the match. Delhi Capitals will take on Mumbai Indians in tomorrow's match at Chennai.
