IPL Match 13: Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians in a close encounter
Delhi Capitals proved their worth defeating Mumbai Indians
in a close encounter played at the M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday.
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided
to bat first. It was not an ideal start as Quinton de Kock fell cheaply to
Marcus Stoinis. After a slow start, Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav took the
attack to Delhi Capitals bowlers. The experienced batsmen put Amit Mishra,
Ravichandran Ashwin and Rabada under immense pressure. At the end of the first
six overs, Mumbai Indians made 55 for 1. With that, the first timeout was
called.
After the timeout, Rohit and Surya Kumar Yadav made the
batting look easy. Avesh Khan into the attack got the breakthrough getting rid
of Surya providing a simple catch to Pant. It was an attacking partnership
between these two players. Both Rohit and Surya added 58 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Lalit Yadav was bought into the attack by Pant and bowled a
tight first over. Amit Mishra changed
the course of the game with wickets of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in the
same over. Both Rohit and Hardik Pandya were caught by Steve Smith at long-on.
Lalit Yadav made life miserable for Mumbai Indians getting rid of Krunal Pandya
taking the inside edge onto the stumps. Amit Mishra struck once more dismissing
dangerous Kieron Pollard with a quicker delivery to leave Mumbai Indians in
massive trouble at 84 for 6. At the end of the second timeout, MI made 89 for
6.
Ishan Kishan and Jayant Yadav steadied the innings for
Mumbai Indians hitting occasional boundaries. Kishan was dismissed in an
unfortunate manner as the ball took the top of the bail. Kishan and Jayant
added 39 runs for the 7th wicket. Yadav was caught and bowled by
Rabada in an attempt to hit a paddle sweep. It was a superb bowling effort by
Delhi Capitals bowlers to restrict Mumbai Indians for 137 for 9 at the end of
the 20 overs.
Chasing 138 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for Delhi
Capitals as Prithvi Shaw could not contribute any runs providing return catch
to Jayant Yadav. Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith steadied the ship for Capitals
taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. At the end of the first six
overs, Delhi Capitals made 39 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Smith and Dhawan played
according to the situation making life tough for the Mumbai Indians. At the end
of the first timeout, Delhi Capitals scored 64 for 1.
The stand-in captain Kieron Pollard got the breakthrough
trapping Steve Smith in front of the wicket. Smith and Dhawan added 53 runs for
the 2nd wicket. Lalit Yadav promoted at number 4 struggled against
Mumbai Indians bowlers while Dhawan looked in complete control. At the end of
the 2nd timeout, Delhi Capitals 90 for 2.
Dhawan smacked 10 runs off Rahul Chahar’s bowling before playing
another risky shot as Krunal Pandya took a good low catch. Dhawan and Lalit
added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed DC
captain Pant to give some hopes for Mumbai Indians.
Shimron Hetymer smacked a boundary off his first ball.
Jasprit Bumrah did not bowl according to expectations giving away 2 no-balls
making life easier for Delhi Capitals. Pollard gave away a boundary and then
bowled a no-ball. Delhi Capitals won the match by six wickets with 5 balls to
spare.
Delhi Capitals 138 for 4 in 19.1 overs (Dhawan 45, Smith 33,
Jayant Yadav 1/25, Bumrah 1/32) beat Mumbai Indians 137 for 9 in 20 overs (Rohit
Sharma 44, Kishan 26, Amit Mishra 4/24) by six wickets.
For his 4 for 24 in 4 overs, Amit Mishra was awarded the man of the match. Delhi Capitals moved up to 2nd in the points table. SRH will face Punjab Kings in the first match at Chennai while CSK will take on KKR at Mumbai.
