IPL Match 19: Ravindra Jadeja all-round performance leads CSK to a big win
Thanks to an all-round performance by Jadeja, Chennai Super
Kings registered an emphatic win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final
match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and
decided to bat first. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis made an aggressive
start putting pressure on the RCB bowlers. Du Plessis showed his intent against
the pacers while Gaikwad looked decent with his strokes. At the end of the
first six overs, CSK made 51 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.
After the timeout, du Plessis and Gaikwad continued to milk
the RCB bowlers taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. Chahal broke
an important partnership by getting rid of Gaikwad providing an easy catch to
Jamieson at the boundary. Gaikwad and du Plessis added 74 runs for the opening
stand. Raina was given a reprieve as Chahal could not comeback to collect
direct throw. After the chance, Raina showed intent hitting big shots to put
enough pressure on RCB bowlers. At the end of the second timeout, CSK made 110
for 1.
Faf du Plessis kept one end up reaching his fifty off 40
balls. Harshal Patel bought RCB into the match by grabbing wickets of Raina and
Faf du Plessis in successive deliveries. Raina and du Plessis added 37 runs for
the 2nd wicket. Daniel Christian dropped a simple chance to get rid
of Jadeja. Rayudu hit few lusty blows before injuring his hamstring while running
for the 2nd. RCB looked good to restrict CSK for a modest total.
Ravindra Jadeja was in a sensational mood hitting 5 sixes including a no-ball and
hit a boundary. During the innings, Jadeja completed fifty off 25 balls. Jadeja
smoked 37 runs in the last over to help CSK post 191 for 4 in 20 overs. Jadeja
and Dhoni added unbeaten 49 runs for the 5th wicket as Dhoni scored
just 2 runs.
Chasing 192 runs to win, Devdutt Paddikal looked in sensational
form hitting boundaries off Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran. After the initial start,
Sam Curran provided the breakthrough taking the edge to MS Dhoni. Paddikal and
Kohli added 44 runs in quick time. MS Dhoni set clever field placement getting
the wicket of Paddikal to leave RCB in some trouble. At the end of the first
six overs, RCB 65 for 2.
Ravindra Jadeja was bought into the attack and dismissed
Washington Sundar. Maxwell looked impressive with his strokes but Jadeja came
back strongly to dismiss Maxwell putting RCB in big trouble. At the end of the
first timeout, RCB made 79 for 4.
A superb direct throw by Jadeja resulted in a run out of
Christian to leave RCB in massive trouble. Imran Tahir joined in the party
taking 2 wickets and produced a run-out. At the end of the second timeout, RCB
scored 103 for 9.
Mohammed Siraj and Chahal played the rest of the four overs to
score 122 for 9. Chennai Super Kings produced a dominating performance to win
by a massive 69 runs.
Chennai Super Kings 191 for 4 in 20 overs (Jadeja 62*, du
Plessis 50, Harshal Patel 3/51) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 122 for 9 in
20 overs (Paddikal 34, Maxwell 22, Jadeja 3/13, Imran Tahir 2/16) by 69 runs.
For his all-around performance, Ravindra Jadeja was awarded
the man of the match award. CSK moved up to the top of the points table due to a
better run rate.
