IPL Match 6: RCB versus SRH: Bowlers lead RCB to a remarkable win

Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers showed great character and resolve to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in a thrilling contest played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner won the toss and decided to field first. Devdutt Paddikal coming into the XI after COVID tests struggled to time the ball. He was soon dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar trying to put pressure on SRH bowlers. Shahbaz Ahmed promoted at number 3 showed some intent along with RCB captain Kohli. At the end of the first six overs, RCB made 47 for 1.

After the field restrictions, SRH bowlers kept a lid on the RCB batsmen with tight lines and lengths. Shahbaz Nadeem took the wicket of Ahmed. Glenn Maxwell came to the crease along with Virat Kohli kept the scoreboard ticking with singles. At the end of the first timeout, RCB made 58 for 2.

Maxwell and Kohli showed his class by smashing decent runs off Nadeem’s over. Holder into his 2nd spell dismissed the dangerous Kohli with a lovely catch by Vijay Shankar. Kohli and Maxwell added 44 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rashid Khan got the big wicket of AB de Villiers as Warner took an easy catch to stem run flow. It was some tight bowling by SRH bowlers as they kept on piling pressure on RCB batsmen. A superb catch by Manish Pandey at long-on ended the innings for Washington Sundar.

Daniel Christian's innings came to end as he decided to review for a caught and the decision was retained to out. Kyle Jamieson provided some impetus along with Maxwell hitting boundaries. Holder dismissed Jamieson as Manish Pandey took an easy catch at long-on. Jamieson and Maxwell added 27 runs for the 7th wicket. Maxwell well-deserved fifty off 38 balls. He was eventually dismissed off the last ball as RCB posted 149 for 8 in 20 overs.

Mohammed Siraj bowled a fiery spell with tight lines and lengths. He troubled Saha and eventually got him out providing an easy catch to Maxwell. Manish Pandey continued the impressive form that he displayed in the last match putting pressure on RCB bowlers. Warner looked in decent touch after struggling initially. At the end of the first six overs, SRH made 50 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Warner and Pandey continued their aggressive approach by keeping the scoreboard ticking hitting boundaries, and taking singles. At the end of the first timeout, SRH looked in a comfortable position at 70 for 1. Warner looked in great touch and completed fifty off 31 balls. With things looking in control, Jamieson provided the breakthrough dismissing Warner was livid with his stroke. Warner and Pandey added 83 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey remained steady along the way. At the end of the second timeout, SRH scored 115 for 2. Soon after the timeout, Shahbaz Ahmed provided RCB with lots of joy taking wickets of Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey, and Abdul Samad. All three SRH batsmen played poor shots to give RCB a chance of winning the match.

Harshal Patel took the important wicket of Vijay Shankar and made life tough for SRH. Despite Khan hitting a six of Siraj’s bowling, Holder was dismissed in the 19th over providing an easy catch to Christian at long-on.

With 16 runs required off the final over, Rashid Khan hit a boundary off no-ball to give SRH hopes of winning. A superb throw by Mohammed Siraj resulted in Khan’s run-out and the umpire did not give any runs. Patel held his nerves to win the match by six runs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore 149 for 8 in 20 overs ( Maxwell 59, Kohli 33, Holder 3/30, Khan 2/18) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 143 for 9 in 20 overs ( Warner 54, Pandey 38, Shahbaz Ahmed 3/7, Patel 2/25) by 6 runs.

With this win, RCB registered their second successive win of the tournament. For his 59 off 41 balls, Maxwell was awarded the man of the match award. Delhi Capitals will take on Rajasthan Royals in tomorrow’s match at Mumbai.

 Thanks to a brilliant spell by Curtis Campher, Ireland registered an emphatic win over the Netherlands in the opening match of Group A played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday. Netherlands captain Peter Seelar won the toss and decided to bat first.  The second day saw some great action from both teams as the match hangs in the balance played at Kennington Oval, London on Friday. It was an ideal start for India as Umesh Yadav grabbed the wicket of nightwatchman Craig Overton with a sharp catch by Virat Kohli.
