IPL Match 7: Miller and Morris knocks help Rajasthan Royals register a thrilling win
Thanks to superb knocks by Miller and Morris, Rajasthan
Royals registered their first win of the tournament defeating Delhi Capitals in
a thriller played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and
decided to field first. The decision paid off as Jaydev Unadkat proved his
worth with two quick wickets of Prithvi Shaw and Dhawan. Shaw played a cut shot
but gave a simple catch to David Miller at backward point. Sanju Samson took a
one-handed blinder getting the wicket of Dhawan to rattle Delhi Capitals. DC
captain Pant played some sensational shots putting some pressure on RR bowlers.
Unadkat struck again for the third time as took a simple
return catch to dismiss Ajiyanka Rahane leaving Delhi Capitals in big trouble
at 36 for 3 and ended the first six overs at the same score.
Musftizur Rahman produced another big wicket of his first
ball dismissing Marcus Stoinis to leave Delhi Capitals in tatters at 37 for 4.
After the timeout, Pant played with intent and put pressure on RR bowlers with
his aggressive style of play.
DC captain Pant scored 20 runs off Rahul Tewaita’s over and
completed fifty off 30 balls. Soon after, Riyan Parag produced a brilliant
direct throw to dismiss Pant’s wicket. Lalit Yadav also played an important
role in hitting some aggressive strokes. Pant and Yadav added 51 runs for the 5th
wicket. Chris Morris dismissed Lalit Yadav to put enough pressure on the Delhi
Capitals batting line-up. At the end of the second timeout, Delhi Capitals made
107 for 6.

wicket before Rahman dismissed Tom Curran. Ravichandran Ashwin was run out
brilliantly with a superb throw by David Miller from the boundary. Kagiso
Rabada and Woakes hit some vital runs to help Delhi Capitals post 147 for 8 in
20 overs.
Chasing 148 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for RR as
Manan Vohra played a poor stroke while Pant took a sensational catch to dismiss
Buttler. Kagiso Rabada was bought into the attack and dismissed RR captain
Sanju Samson with Shikhar Dhawan taking an easy catch at first slips to leave RR
in big trouble. At the end of the first six overs, RR looked in deep trouble with the scoreboard reading 26 for 3.
Miller steadied the innings for Rajasthan Royals taking
singles and hitting occasional boundaries. Avesh Khan dismissed Shivam Dube
providing an easy catch to Dhawan at slips. With that wicket, the first timeout
was called at 41 for 4.
Soon after the timeout, Avesh Khan struck again to get rid
of Riyan Parag to leave RR in deep trouble at 42 for 5. David Miller showed
some intent putting pressure on the Delhi Capitals bowlers, especially Marcus
Stoinis. Rahul Tewaita gave good support to Miller and kept RR in the chase.
Kagiso Rabada back into the attack dismissed Rahul Tewaita
with a sharp bouncer providing a simple catch to Lalit Yadav. Tewaita and Miller
added 48 runs for the 6th wicket. Miller remained steady and
completed fifty off 40 balls. The hard-hitting Miller smacked two sixes off Khan’s
over but was dismissed trying to hit another big shot to leave RR in trouble at
104 for 7. With that wicket, the second timeout was called.
After the timeout, Chris Morris took most of the strike and
provided some lusty hitting. Jaydev Unadkat also smacked a six to give some
hopes for RR to win. With 12 runs required off the last over, Morris blasted
away 2 massive sixes off Tom Curran’s bowling giving RR a thrilling 3 wickets
win. Morris and Unadkat put on unbeaten 46 runs for the 8th wicket.
For his 3 for 15 in 4 overs, Jaydev Unadkat was awarded the man of the match. CSK will face Punjab Kings in the next match to be played in Mumbai.
