South Africa versus Pakistan 3rd T20I: Babar Azam and Rizwan brilliance helps Pakistan chase down a mammoth target.
Thanks to a brilliant knock by Babar and Rizwan, Pakistan
chased their highest successful run chase defeating South Africa in the 3rd
T20I played at Super Sports Park, Centurion on Wednesday.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to
field first. The South African openers Aiden Markram and Janneman Malan put
the pressure back on Pakistani bowlers right from the word go. Both openers
showed their intent scoring 18 runs off Hasan Ali’s first over and maintained
the momentum for the hosts. At the end of the first six overs, South Africa
raced away to 65 for 0.
After the field restrictions, Markram and Malan continued
their attacking approach making life tough for the visitors. Markram raced
away to his fifty-off 25 balls. Mohammad Nawaz provided the breakthrough
dismissing the dangerous Markram in an attempt to hit another big shot that was clean
bowled. South African openers added 108 runs laying a strong foundation for a
massive total. Linde promoted at number 3 also hit some lusty blows putting
enough pressure.
Faheem Ashraf dismissed Linde with good delivery. During
the innings, Malan completed his fifty off 36 balls. Linde and Malan added 33
runs for the 2nd wicket. Rassie Van der Dussen coming back into the
side played a cameo innings remaining not out on 34 off 21 balls. Despite the
fall of wickets, South African maintained a healthy run-rate posting 203 for
5 in 20 overs. Andile Phehlukawyo was dismissed off the final ball.
Chasing 204 runs to win, the Pakistani captain Babar Azam
and Mohammad Rizwan put the pressure back on the South African bowlers with an attacking approach. Both openers helped visitors raced away to 64 for 0.
After the field restrictions, the Pakistani captain Babar
Azam looked in majestic touch hitting boundaries at will and reached his fifty
off 27 balls while Rizwan played his part reaching fifty off 32 balls. Both
Pakistani openers kept the momentum going making life tough for the South
African bowlers. Babar showed his class and made his maiden T20I century off 49
balls and continued his approach. Williams finally broke through getting rid of
Babar for a superb 122. Babar and Rizwan added 197 runs for the opening wicket.
Fakhar Zaman joined in with Rizwan and completed the job for
Pakistan winning the match easily by 9 wickets. It was the highest successful
run-chase by Pakistan in T20Is.
Pakistan 205 for 1 in 18 overs (Babar Azam 122, Rizwan 73,
Williams 1/34) beat South Africa 203 for 5 in 20 overs (Markrarm 63, Malan 55, Dussen
34*, Nawaz 2/38) by 9 wickets.
Babar Azam was named the man of the match award for his 122
off 49 balls. With this win, Pakistan took a 2-1 lead in the series. The fourth
and final T20I will be played on 16th April.
