South Africa versus Pakistan 4th T20I: Pakistan seal the series with a thrilling win

Despite the collapse, Pakistan defeated South Africa in the 4th and final T20I match played at Super Sports Park, Centurion on Friday.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to field first. Aiden Markram looked in sensational form with a boundary and six before Nawaz dismissed him with good delivery. Markram was given out by the umpire and the decision was retained due to the umpire’s call. Janneman Malan and Rassie Van der Dussen put pressure on Pakistani bowlers with attacking strokes. Both South African batsmen smashed 17 runs off Hasan Ali’s first over. At the end of the first six overs, South Africa made 53 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Malan and Dussen played according to the situation looking comfortable for a massive total. Faheem Ashraf struck in his first over dismissing Malan who gave a simple catch to Zaman at mid-off. Malan and Dussen added 57 runs for the 2nd wicket. Van der Dussen displayed great hitting against the Pakistani bowlers while Klassen struggled with his timing. Ashraf made another important breakthrough getting the struggling Klassen. Klassen and Dussen added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket. Dussen reached his fifty off just 33 balls to keep the momentum for South Africa. I

The Pakistani bowlers made a strong comeback as they kept picking up wickets at regular intervals and bowled out the hosts for a modest total of 144 in 19.3 overs. After being smashed for lots of runs in the first 2 overs, Hasan Ali took 3 wickets.

Chasing 145 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for the visitors as Mohammad Rizwan could not open his account dismissed by Fortuin. Fakhar Zaman looked in sublime touch putting the pressure on the South African bowling along with Babar Azam. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan made 57 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Zaman put pressure on Magala and kept on hitting runs making life tough for South African bowlers while Babar Azam gave him good support. Zaman completed his fifty-off 27 balls and put Pakistan on course for a win. Williams dismissed first Zaman ending 91 runs stand for the 2nd wicket. In the same over, Williams got rid of Babar Azam.

South Africa returned into the game as they dismissed Haider Ali, Mohammed Hafeez, Asif Ali, and Faheem Ashraf. The match shifted into Pakistan’s favor as Magala bowled 2 no-balls as Nawaz hit a six.

With 6 runs required off 6 balls, Williams bowled a decent over before Nawaz hit a six to help Pakistan register 3 wickets win with 1 ball to spare.

Pakistan 149 for 7 in 19.5 overs (Zaman 60, Babar 24, Magala 2/33, Williams 2/39) beat South Africa 144 in 19.3 overs ( Van der Dussen 52, Malan 33, Hasan Ali 3/40, Faheem Ashraf 3/17) by 3 wickets.

With this win, Pakistan sealed the 4 match T20I series by 3-1. For his 3 for 17 in 4 overs, Faheem Ashraf was awarded the man of the match while Babar Azam awarded the man of the series.

 Thanks to a brilliant spell by Curtis Campher, Ireland registered an emphatic win over the Netherlands in the opening match of Group A played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday.  The second day saw some great action from both teams as the match hangs in the balance played at Kennington Oval, London on Friday. It was an ideal start for India as Umesh Yadav grabbed the wicket of nightwatchman Craig Overton with a sharp catch by Virat Kohli.
