Zimbabwe versus Pakistan 1st T20I: Pakistan beat Zimbabwe in a thriller
Thanks to a brilliant knock by Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan
defeated Zimbabwe in the first T20I match played at the Harare Sports Club,
Harare on Wednesday.
Zimbabwe stand-in captain Sean Williams won the toss and
decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the hosts as Blessing Muzabrani
dismissed Pakistani captain Babar Azam who provided a simple catch to Ryan Burl at
knee height. Mohammad Rizwan was dropped by Kamuhkne while Williams dropped
Fakhar Zaman. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan made 42 for 1.
Madhevere got rid of Fakhar Zaman after the field
restrictions. Zaman and Rizwan added 34 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Zimbabwe catching was pathetic as they dropped Mohammad Hafeez. The Pakistani
middle-order struggled badly with Mohammed Hafeez, Danish Aziz, Haider Ali
being dismissed cheaply. Rizwan looked composed and reached fifty off 48 balls.
Faheem Ashraf and Nawaz failed to contribute big runs. In the last over, Rizwan
smacked 20 runs from Ngarava’s over helping the visitors post 149 for 7.
Chasing 150 runs to win, Wesley Madhevere started off briskly
with 3 boundaries. Mohammed Hasnain got 2 quick wickets in the same over
getting Madhevere and debutant Marumi. Sean Ervine and Kamukhne looked
composed hitting bad balls away for boundaries. At the end of the first six
overs, Zimbabwe scored 35 for 2.
Ervine and Kamukhne took the attack to Usman Qadir hitting
him for boundaries. Both Zimbabwe batsmen created pressure on the Pakistani bowling
line-up. The experienced Hafeez got the breakthrough for the visitors
dismissing Kamukhnew stumped by Rizwan. Ervine and Kamukhne added 56 runs for
the 3rd wicket. Usman Qadir brought Pakistan into the match by
dismissing Ervine, Williams, and Chakbabva to leave Zimbabwe at 95 for 6.
The situation became tough for Zimbabwe but Luke Jongwe and
Ryan Burl smacking boundaries to put pressure on the Pakistan bowling line-up.
Haris Rauf produced a superb yorker getting rid of Ryan Burl. Burl and Jongwe
added 27 runs for the 7th wicket.
Zimbabwe needed 20 runs off the final over, Haris Rauf gave
away just 8 runs and helped Pakistan clinch the match by 11.
Pakistan 149 for 7 in 20 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 82*, Madhevere
2/11, Jongwe 2/24) beat Zimbabwe 138 for 7 in 20 overs (Ervine 34, Jongwe 30*,
Qadir 3/29, Hasnain 2/27) by 11 runs. ‘
For his unbeaten 82 off 61 balls, Mohammad Rizwan was named
the man of the match. Pakistan takes a 1-0 lead in 3 match series. The 2nd
T20I will be played on the same ground on 23rd April.
