India becomes number 1 test side again
In the annual rankings announced by International Cricket
Council today, the Indian Cricket Team proved their worth being the number 1
ranked Test side. The update includes all the matches played since May 2020 at
100 percent and those two previous years at 50 percent.
Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Indian Cricket Team
has become the number 1 ranked Test side for the 5th successive
year from 2017 onwards. In this annual update, The Indian team gathered 2914 points from 24
matches during that period accumulating 121 points while New Zealand earned
2166 points from 18 Test matches.
Virat Kohli led side dominated the inaugural ICC World Test
Championship points table. They defeated West Indies, Sri Lanka, away from home, and then dominated South Africa, Bangladesh at home. Due to coronavirus, the points
system was changed. Their position changed with that rule.
After being humiliated in the opening Test match at Adelaide
Oval, Ajiyanka Rahane led from the front helping the Indian Cricket Team register a
famous 2-1 series win. The Indian Team missed key players like Shami, Umesh
Yadav, KL Rahul. Bumrah, Ashwin missed the fourth Test at Gabba, Brisbane due
to injuries.
The young Indian Team chased down 328 on the fifth and final
day. After that performance, India proved their domination in the home Test series
against England. The Indian team came back strongly after losing the first Test
badly. Virat Kohli led side ended the ICC World Test Championship at the top of the points table with 72.2.
New Zealand is just one point behind as they showed their
domination defeating New Zealand, West Indies at home easily. The Indian Cricket
Team will take on Kiwis in the finals of the ICC World Test Championship to be
played at Rose Bowl, Southampton from 18th-22nd June with
23rd being the reserve day.
England jumped past Australia to be at number 3 place. The
Australian Team slips down to number 4th with a shattering 1-2 loss
from a third-string Indian side at home.
