Pakistan versus Zimbabwe 2nd Test 3rd Day: Pakistan on the verge of a big win

It was another dominating display by the Pakistani team as they are one wicket away from winning on the 3rd day of the 2nd Test match played at Harare Sports Club, Harare on Sunday.

Starting on the overnight score of 52 for 4, Zimbabwe got off to the worst possible start as Chisoro was brilliantly caught by Imran Butt at slips. Regis Chakabva looked good with his defensive technique and played some attacking strokes. Abid Ali took a lovely catch to end the innings for Chakabva to leave Zimbabwe in tatters.

Luke Jongwe impressed with his technique before Hasan Ali produced a beauty to get rid of him. Donald Tiripano showed some solid defensive technique against good quality bowling. Roy Kaia who injured himself came at number 9 frustrated the Pakistani bowling line-up. A good catch by substitute Saud Shakeel ended the innings for Tiripano. Richard Ngarava enjoyed himself before Muzabrani was run out without dragging his bat to be bowled out for 132 in the first innings. With that, the umpires called it lunch.

Deciding to enforce the follow-on, Shaheen Shah Afridi got the breakthrough for Pakistan dismissing Musakanda with good delivery.  Regis Chakabva and Kauza showed great hitting skills putting pressure on Nauman Ali and other bowlers. Both kept on ticking the scoreboard before Nauman got rid of Kauza. Kauza and Chakbava added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Brendon Taylor came to the crease and scored at a quick pace hitting boundaries without caring about the match. Chakabva also impressed with his defensive technique. At the end of the 2nd session, Zimbabwe ended at 98 for 2.

After the tea break, Taylor and Chakabva continued to score easily hitting boundaries. Chakabva reached his fifty off just 72 balls keeping the momentum going. Shaheen Shah Afridi struck to get rid of Brendon Taylor one short of a half-century. Taylor and Chakabva added 79 runs for the 3rd wicket. Milton Shumba also showed solid defensive technique as Chakabva made the batting look easy.

Nauman Ali provided another breakthrough getting rid of Chakabva with a sharp catch by Babar Azam at slips. Shumba and Chakabva added 28 runs for the 4th wicket. Imran Butt produced a superb reflex catch at short leg to get rid of Shumba. Nauman Ali dismissed Tiripano and Kaia off successive deliveries to bring Pakistan on the brink. Shaheen Shah Afridi rattled Chisoro and Ngarava with beauties.

Luke Jongwe batted well to ensure that the match goes into the fourth day. Zimbabwe ended the 3rd day at 220 for 9.

Zimbabwe 132 in  ( Chakabva 33, Tiripano 23, Hasan Ali 5/27, Sajid Khan 2/39 ) and 220 for 9 in 63 overs ( Chakabva 80, Taylor 49, Nauman Ali 5/86, Shaheen Shah Afridi 4/45) trail Pakistan 510 for 8 in 147.1 overs ( Abid Ali 215*, Azhar Ali 126, Nauman Ali 91, Muzabrani 3/82, Chisoro 2/131) by 158 runs.

 Thanks to a brilliant spell by Curtis Campher, Ireland registered an emphatic win over the Netherlands in the opening match of Group A played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday.  Indian ace shuttler produced a sensational display as she defeated Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals played at Mushino Sports Forest Plaza, Tokyo on Thursday.
