This Day That Year: Rishabh Pant blasted away Sunrisers Hyderabad attack in IPL
The explosive left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant
played one of the best innings by an Indian player against Sunrisers Hyderabad
played on 10th May 2018 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided
to bat first. It was not an ideal start for DC as they lost wickets of Prithvi
Shaw, Jason Roy, and DC captain Iyer cheaply. Pant looked steady at the crease
and put the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers under pressure with his attacking
style. Harshal Patel also provided some impetus for the team. Pant remained
cool and reached his fifty off just 36 balls.
After reaching his fifty, Pant was in simply sensational
form hitting boundaries and sixes at will. Harshal Patel contributed 24 off 17
balls. Patel and Pant added 55 runs for the 4th wicket. Pant upped
the ante showing his class making life tough for SRH bowlers. He did not allow
any bowlers to settle and completed a century off 56 balls. Despite the other
batsmen failing, Pant hit 26 runs off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the last over with 3
sixes and 2 fours. It was an amazing knock by the dashing batsman remaining not
out on 128 off 63 balls. His innings included 15 fours and 7 sixes. Delhi
Capitals posted 187 for 5 in 20 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down this target with ease as
Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner put on unbeaten 176 runs for the 2nd
wicket. Despite Pant’s brilliance, Dhawan was awarded the man of the match
award.
Pant blasted away the Sunrisers Hyderabad attack with his
innovative strokes and made Delhi fans happy. He scored the most number of sixes in
the 2018 edition with 37 from 14 matches. Along with the most sixes award, he was
awarded the emerging player of the season.
Pant was the 2nd leading runs scorer in 2018
IPL with 684 runs from 14 matches ( 14 innings) including 5 half-centuries and
1 century. Despite his consistent performance, Delhi Capitals finished last in
the points table.
