Zimbabwe versus Pakistan 2nd Test 1st Day: Honours even at the end of day 1

Despite Abid Ali and Azhar Ali superb partnership, Blessing Muzabrani showed great bowling skills to end the first day on even keel played at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on Friday.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a cautious start Abid Ali and Imran Butt against good, disciplined bowling by Ngarva and Muzabrani. Both batsmen survived one chance each before Ngarva produced a bouncer to get rid of Imran Butt. Azhar Al came to the crease and played cautiously initially.

After surviving the initial one hour, Azhar Ali and Abid Ali took the advantage of the bad bowling by Chisoro. It was a good batting display by both batsmen to put some pressure on Zimbabwe bowling. Pakistan ended the first session at 72 for 1.

Abid Ali and Azhar Ali were solid with their defensive technique hitting the bad balls away for boundaries. Both kept the scoreboard ticking making life tough for Zimbabwe bowlers. Abid Ali completed his fifty off 101 balls while Azhar Ali reached half-century off 113 balls. It was a disciplined batting effort by Azhar and Abid to create enough pressure on the host's bowlers. At the end of the 2nd session, Pakistan ended in a strong position at 166 for 1.

The third session saw both Azhar and Abid Ali continued their batting display putting the bad balls away for boundaries. Both batsmen did not look in any trouble. Azhar Ali completed a well-deserved century off 198 balls. Zimbabwe took the 2nd new ball immediately after the 80th over. Muzabrani and Ngarava bowled with pace troubling well-set batsmen. Muzabrani bowled a peach to get rid of Azhar Ali providing an easy catch to Shumba at gully. Azhar and Abid Ali added 236 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Soon after, Muzabrani struck again to take the big fish of Pakistan captain Babar Azam with a similar delivery to Azhar Ali. Muzabrani troubled Fawad Alam with his pace and eventually got him to bring back Zimbabwe into the game. Sajid Khan sent as a nightwatchman looked out of sorts but survived few anxious moments. Pakistan ended the first day at 268 for 4.

 Thanks to a brilliant spell by Curtis Campher, Ireland registered an emphatic win over the Netherlands in the opening match of Group A played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday.  Indian ace shuttler produced a sensational display as she defeated Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals played at Mushino Sports Forest Plaza, Tokyo on Thursday.
