England versus NZ 2nd Test 4th Day: New Zealand seal a famous series win with 8 wicket win.

Under the stand-in captain Tom Latham, New Zealand registered their first series win since 2000 as they defeated the hosts England by 8 wickets on the fourth day of the 2nd Test match played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday.

Trent Boult produced a superb delivery to get rid of Olly Stone of the very first ball providing an easy catch to Tom Blundell setting a paltry total of 38 runs. Devon Conway ended the series with a low score as Stuart Broad dismissed him with a beauty.

Despite good bowling by Anderson and Broad, Tom Latham and Will Young looked composed keeping the scoreboard ticking. Mark Wood missed a chance to run out of Latham but could not hit the stumps. Olly Stone dismissed Will Young with an inside edge onto the stumps. Young and Latham added 27 runs for the 2nd wicket. Tom Latham hit the winning runs with a boundary to help New Zealand register an emphatic 8 wicket win.

For his 6 wickets in the match, Matt Henry was awarded the man of the match. Devon Conway for his 306 runs from 4 innings was named the man of the series.

It was a superb performance by the Blackcaps ahead of the World Test Championship finals to be played from 18th June at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. After a tough draw match at Lords, New Zealand went into the second match with six changes including Williamson.

England captain Root won the toss and decided to bat first. After a decent start by Dom Sibley and Rory Burns, Neil Wagner and Matt Henry dismissed Sibley, Crawley, and Root in quick succession. The Kiwis bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals. England ended the 1st day at 258 for 7.

Despite quickfire knock by Mark Wood with 41 and Dan Lawrence 81*, England posted 303 runs in the first innings. In reply, Tom Latham was dismissed cheaply. Devon Conway and Will Young survived few anxious moments before adding 122 runs for the 2nd wicket. Young and Taylor steadied the ship putting pressure on the England bowlers putting on 92 runs as Young was dismissed off the last ball of the day.

Despite the fall of quick wickets, the New Zealand batsmen posted 388 runs in the first innings taking a useful lead of 85 runs. Matt Henry ripped England top order dismissing Burns, Sibley, and Crawley. The Kiwis bowlers hunted in pairs and kept the hosts under pressure. Mark Wood and Stone put on 44 runs for the 8th wicket to save England from an innings defeat.

New Zealand 388 in 119.1 overs (Ross Taylor 80, Will Young 82, Conway 80, Broad 4/48, Olly Stone 2/92) and 41 for 2 in 10.5 overs (Latham 23*, Stuart Broad 1/13, Stone 1/5) beat England 303 in 101 overs (Lawrence 81*, Burns 81, Boult 4/85, Henry 3/78) and 122 all out in 41.1 o overs (Mark Wood 29, Pope 23, Wagner 3/18, Henry 3/36) by 8 wickets.

New Zealand reclaimed the number 1 ranked team in Test matches. India and New Zealand would be giving their best shot in the finals of the ICC World Test championship finals to be played from 18th June.
