Indian women versus England women 1st ODI: England women thrash India

The England women produced a dominating display in the 1st One-day international match against India played at County Ground, Bristol on Sunday.

England women captain Heather Knight won the toss and decided to field first. The debutant Shafali Verma showed great intent putting Brunt and Shurbsole with boundaries. To hit another big shot, Verma provided a simple catch to Shurbsole. Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut failed to rotate the strike. After the sustained pressure by England bowlers, Shurbsole produced a superb delivery getting rid of Mandhana. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian women ended at 27 for 2.

After the field restrictions, Raut and Mithali Raj could not hit boundaries as England bowlers kept on the pressure. Raut was given out by the umpire and on review, it was overturned due to the ball missing the leg stump. Raut played some lovely shots but there were a lot of dot balls consumed by the experienced duo. Kate Cross got the wicket of Raut who tried to smash a big shot being caught by Ecclestone at mid-off. Raut and Mithali Raj added 56 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ecclestone struck early to dismiss dangerous Harmanpreet Kaur to leave Indian women in trouble at 84 for 4.

Deepti Sharma and Mithali Raj kept on consuming dots balls. After the initial struggle, Sharma and Raj showed some intent in hitting boundaries. Raj upped the ante and completed her fifty off 95 balls. Vastrakar also played some attacking strokes. Ecclestone provided another important breakthrough getting the wicket of Raj for a well-made 72. Shikha Pandey and Jhulan Goswami ensured that Indian women cross 200. Indian women ended their innings at 201 for 8 in 50 overs.

In reply to 202 runs to win, Tammy Beaumont and Laura Winfield provided an aggressive start putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. Goswami got rid of Winfield to give Indian some hope. Beaumont played with intent and kept the pressure hitting boundaries at will. At the end of the first 10 overs, England women raced away to 61 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Knight joined in with Beaumont and kept the scoreboard ticking. Ekta Bisht produced a beauty to dismiss Heather Knight ending 59 runs 2nd wicket partnership. Nat Sciver looked in cracking touch hitting boundaries at will.

Beaumont kept the momentum going on and reached her fifty off 48 balls. Nat Sciver showed her class making life tough for visitors.
