Indian women versus England women one-off Test 3rd Day: Shafali Verma fifty stole the show on a rain-curtailed day

 

Shafali Verma produced another brilliant knock in the 2nd innings after being asked to follow-on after rain-curtailed 3rd day played at County Ground, Bristol on Friday.

Starting on the overnight score of 187 for 5, it was not an ideal start for the visitors as Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone via a review. The umpire gave it not out and on review, it was overturned to out. Soon after, Taniya Bhatia was dismissed without opening her account by Ecclestone leaving India in massive trouble at 187 for 7. India earned their first run as Deepti Sharma scored 2 runs.

A lovely catch by Amy Jones ended the innings for Sneha Rana. Deepti Sharma played some lovely shots against Ecclestone. Pooja Vastrakar took the advantage of bad bowling by Dunkley hitting boundaries. Katherine Brunt produced a peach to dismiss Vastrakar ending a 33 runs partnership for the 9th wicket. Shurbsole got rid of Jhulan Goswami bowling out India for 231. The England captain Heather Knight decided to follow on.

Shafali Verma played some lovely shots against Katherine Brunt and continued from where she left in the first innings. At the stroke of lunch break, Smriti Mandhana provided a simple catch to Nat Sciver at second slips ending at 29 for 1.

There was a stoppage in play because of consistent rain. Deepti Sharma was promoted at number 3 and looked confident with her defense. Shafali Verma showed her intent making life tough for the hosts. The youngster played some lovely shots and reached 2nd fifty off 63 balls. Indian women ended the 2nd session at 83 for 1 with rain arriving. The umpires called it tea as soon as rain arrived.

The rain poured like anything, and umpires called off the day. Shafali Verma would be looking to continue as there will be 108 overs to bowled tomorrow with better weather being forecasted.
