India versus SL 3rd T20I: All-round Sri Lanka beat India easily to win the series
A great all-round display was enough as Sri Lanka registered a resounding win in the deciding T20I match against depleted Indian side played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Thursday.
Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and decided to
bat first. Ruturaj Gaikwad started off the innings with a lovely boundary.
Dhawan did not open his account as Dhanajaya de Silva took a good low catch. Devdutt
Paddikal and Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the ship for India. Ramesh Mendis grabbed
the wicket of Paddikal to derail India’s innings. Things went worst for Men
in Blue as Sanju Samson did not open his account with a peach by Hasaranga. Hasaranga
struck again to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad took the review for LBW, but
the decision was upheld. It was a disappointing performance by the Men in Blue.
At the end of the first six overs, India made looked in deep trouble at 29 for 4.
A superb piece of catching on his bowling by Dasun Shanaka got
rid of Nitish Rana to leave the Indian team in disarray. The Sri Lankan bowlers
kept on the pressure on Indian batsmen not allowing Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep
Yadav's score runs easily. Dasun Shanaka took a superb diving catch to end the
resistance for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Hasaranga bowled with great control not
giving runs and grabbed important wickets. Shanaka dismissed Rahul Chahar to
further dent into India’s batting. Dasun Shanaka took another good catch to get
rid of Varun Chakravarthy. Kuldeep Yadav and Chetan Sakaryia played the entire 20
overs. A superb bowling effort restricted India to their 3rd lowest
total of 81 for 8.
Chasing a modest total of 82 runs to win, Avishka Fernando and
Minod Bhanuka started off cautiously. Sandeep Warrier was awarded his debut
T20I cap. Rahul Chahar was bought into the attack and struck immediately getting
rid of Fernando with a brilliant caught and bowled chance. He almost got his 2nd
wicket as the ball fell short in front of Devdutt Paddikal at slips. Warrier
conceded decent runs to let off the pressure. Chahar dismissed Bhanuka with a lovely
delivery. The decision was upheld to out.
Samarawickrama looked out of sorts against Rahul Chahar.
Dhanajaya de Silva looked impressive and put some pressure on Indian bowling.
Chahar took his 3rd wicket by grabbing the wicket of Samarawickrama with
a superb delivery. Dhananjaya de Silva reviewed the decision for caught behind and
it was overturned too not out. The umpires called it wide, and Sri Lanka won
the match comfortably.
Sri Lanka 82 for 3 in 14.3 overs (Dhananjaya de Silva 23*, Rahul
Chahar 3/15) beat India 81 for 8 in 20 overs (Kuldeep Yadav 23*, Bhuvneshwar
Kumar 16, Hasaranga 4/9) by 7 wickets.
For his figures of 4 for 9 in 4 overs, Hasaranga was awarded
the man of the match award and also man of the series.
