Thanks to superb knocks by Fernando and Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka registered a consolation win in the 3rd and final One-day international played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Friday.
Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and decided to
bat first. It was an aggressive start as the stylish left-handed opener smashed
3 successive boundaries off Akila Dananjaya’s bowling. Prithvi Shaw also looked
in sensational touch timing the ball brilliantly. Chameera got the breakthrough
for Sri Lanka getting rid of Dhawan with a superb delivery.
After the fall of Dhawan’s wicket, Sanju Samson and Shaw
showed intent putting the Lankan bowlers under immense pressure. It was an
aggressive start by the Indian team to end the first 10 overs at 66 for 1.
Sanju Samson and Shaw continued to dominate the Lankan
spinners against Jayawickrama and Ramesh Mendis. Both looked comfortable before
Shaw played across the line LBW one short of fifty. Shaw and Sanju Samson added
74 runs for the 2nd wicket. Sanju Samson making ODI debut impressed
with his stroke play before trying to put Sri Lankan bowlers under pressure
giving a catch to Fernando leaving India in some trouble. Surya Kumar Yadav
survived a close LBW shout given out but on review, it was overturned too not
out. With the scoreboard reading at 147 for 3 in 23 overs, rain arrived.
After a long rain delay, the match was reduced to 47 overs
side. Manish Pandey’s poor form continued as he was caught by Bhaunka. Pandey
and Surya Kumar Yadav added 39 runs for the 4th wicket. Hardik
Pandya looked promising but was dismissed via review for LBW. The umpire gave it
not out and the decision was overturned to out crashing in front of the stumps.

Kumar Yadav, debutants Krishnappa Gowtham and Nitish Rana. Surya Kumar Yadav
was given out via review by Sri Lanka. Rahul Chahar and Navdeep Saini showed
some fight against the Sri Lankan bowlers.

wicket each.

aggressive start by Avishka Fernando keeping the pressure on the inexperienced
bowling lineup. After starting off badly, Krishnappa Gowtham struck getting
rid of Krishnappa Gowtham with a catch by Chetan Sakaryia. Bhanuka Rajapaksa
and Fernando kept the pressure on Indian bowlers hitting boundaries. Sri Lanka
ended the first 10 overs at 55 for 1.
Rajapaksa and Fernando never looked discomfortable
keeping the scoreboard ticking. Both Sri Lankan batsmen hit boundaries and took
singles with ease. Hardik Pandya was not at his best conceding runs. Both Sri
Lankan batsmen played sensibly making life tough for the visitors. Fernando
completed fifty off 53 balls while Rajapaksa reached his maiden fifty off just
43 balls.

of Rajapaksa as Krishnappa Gowtham took the catch. Rajapaksa and Fernando added
109 runs for the 2nd wicket. A superb return catch on his follow-through by Sakaryia put an end to Dhanajaya innings.

too many catches. Charith Asalanaka and Fernando kept the momentum going for
Sri Lanka taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. Hardik Pandya grabbed
the wicket of Asalanaka. Asalanaka and Fernando added 43 runs for the 4th
wicket. Rahul Chahar dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka to leave Sri
Lanka in some trouble. Prithvi Shaw dropped a simple chance to dismiss Ramesh
Mendis. Ramesh Mendis then played some lovely strokes to release pressure. A
superb piece of bowling by Rahul Chahar took the wicket of well-set Avishka
Fernando.

dismiss Karunaratne with a great piece of stumping by Sanju Samson. Despite the
