Tokyo Olympics 2020: PV Sindhu enters knockout rounds
The Indian badminton star PV Sindhu had no problems of defeating Cheung Yi in her second Group J match played at Mushino Sports Forest Plaza, Tokyo on Wednesday.
Both players started on even keel earning two points each.
Soon after, Sindhu showed her domination and put enough pressure on the Hong
Kong player. At the mid-game interval, the Indian had a commanding lead. After the break, Sindhu made good use of her height and won the first game easily at 21-9.
The second game saw PV Sindhu showed attacking skills and
took a commanding 6-2 lead. Cheung then fought back strongly to level the
scores at 6-6 and finally grabbed 1 point advantage. The Indian committed few
unforced errors. At the mid-game interval, Cheung had a slender 11-10 lead. After the
break, the scores were level at 14-14. Sindhu took 4 points in succession to continue
her domination over Cheung. Despite Cheung defended two match points, Rio
Olympic silver medallists won the match easily at 21-16.
With this win, PV Sindhu topped the Group and move into the
round of 16. She will face Mia Blichifedt of Denmark. The Indian had no
problems defeating Israel and Hong Kong player in two straight games.
PV Sindhu looked sharp in the entire match and used her
height. She hit great smash shots and never allowed Cheung to make moves. In
the second game, the Indian did struggle but came back strongly and dominate
her opponent to win the match easily.
The Indian will now be looking to continue her performance
in the tougher challenges ahead. Sindhu had done lots of preparation for this Tokyo
Olympics. Both players had won against the Israel player. This win would do
lots of confidence to Sindhu and hoping to play more aggressively against top-quality players in the knockout rounds.
