Tokyo Olympics 2020: PV Sindhu marches into the quarterfinals
The Indian badminton sensation PV Sindhu had no problems in dispatching Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in straight sets played at Mushino Sports Forest Plaza, Tokyo on Thursday.
Mia started off on a bright note taking 2 early points
before Sindhu stormed back into the game with 4 successive points. The Indian
dominated the court play and put consistent pressure on 12th seed
Danish player maintain pressure. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu had a
commanding 11-6 lead. Sindhu showed her aggression playing smashes and drop
shots making her opponent clueless.
Mia tried to make a comeback into the game by earning points
in succession. The 12th seeded Danish fought back strongly to reduce the gap, but Sindhu showed her domination winning the first game easily at 21-15.
The second game saw PV Sindhu starting off aggressively
taking a commanding 5-0 lead initially. Mia looked out of sorts as she did
service fault. Sindhu dominated the play with attacking strokes and putting the
opponent under immense pressure. At the mid-game interval, the Rio Olympics silver medallist
had an 11-6 lead. After the break, it was a dominating display by Sindhu who
showed her class and made life tough for Mia. She played some lovely smashes leaving
Mia under so much pressure. The Indian had no problems winning the second game easily
at 21-13 to move into the quarterfinals.
PV Sindhu has been great so far winning all three matches
easily. After the initial struggle, the Indian played with aggression and never let
her opponent a chance in the game. She will face the winner of Kim Ga Un of South
Korea or Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the quarterfinals.
Sindhu faced some problems in the first game as Mia came
back strongly from 8-13 to a one-point gap at 15-16. After that struggle, the Indian
did not have any problems and won the match easily.
