India versus England 3rd Test 4th Day: Bowlers help England thrash India to level the series
The England bowlers produced a great display of bowling to register a thumping win on the 4th morning of the 3rd Test match played at Headingly, Leeds on Saturday.
Joe Root decided to take the 2nd new ball immediately.
James Anderson and Ollie Robinson troubled both experienced batsmen of the Indian
team. Cheteshwar Pujara missed judged the line as he did not offer any shot.
The umpire gave it not out and the decision was overturned to out ending 99
runs partnership for the 4th wicket.
After struggling initially, James Anderson produced some beauties
making life tough for Indian captain Virat Kohli. Kohli survived a close caught
behind shout as he was given out but on review, the decision was overturned due
to the ball hitting the pad before bat. The Indian captain reached his first fifty
in this series off 120 balls. Soon after, Robinson dismissed Kohli providing an easy catch to Joe Root at slips.
Ajiyanka Rahane looked decent enough before James Anderson
produced another good delivery taking the edge to Jos Buttler putting the Indian
team under immense pressure. Rishabh Pant did not look comfortable coming down
the track and playing expansive strokes. Soon after, Robinson dismissed Pant
providing an easy catch to Overton leaving the Indian team on the backfoot.
Robinson bowled some long spells along with James Anderson. Mohammed
Shami was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out as
it was missing leg stump. Joe Root bought in Moeen Ali into the attack and
produced a peach to dismiss Mohammed Shami. Robinson struck again with another
good delivery getting rid of Ishant Sharma leaving India on the brink of
defeat.
Ravindra Jadeja enjoyed himself with a flurry of good strokes
against Moeen Ali and Craig Overton. Jadeja smashed Overton for 3 boundaries in
an over and smacked Moeen for a six. Overton dismissed Jadeja and finished with
the wicket of Mohammed Siraj in the same over to bowl out England for 278.
With this win, England leveled the 5 match Test series at
1-1 and register 12 points in the ICC Test Championship cycle. For his 7
wickets, Ollie Robinson was awarded man of the match award.
India and England will start the battle again in the fourth
Test starting from 2nd September at Oval, London.
England 432 in 132.2 overs (Joe Root 121, Hameed 68, Burns
61, Shami 4/95, Bumrah 2/59, Siraj 2/86) beat India 78
in 40.4 overs (Rohit 19, Rahane 18, Anderson 3/6, Overton 3/14) and 278 in
99.3 overs ( Pujara 91, Kohli 55, Robinson 5/65, Overton 3/47) by an innings
and 76 runs.
