India versus England 2nd Test 2nd Day: India ahead despite Root and Burns resistance
Despite Root and Burns decent partnership, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Siraj brilliance helped the Indian team in a decent position on the 2nd day of 2nd Test match played at Lords, London on Friday.
Starting on the overnight score of 276 for 3, it was not an ideal start for the visitors as KL Rahul provided a simple catch to Sibley after adding just 2 runs. In the next over, Rahane’s poor form continued providing easy catch to Joe Root at slips leaving India in some trouble. Rishabh Pant started his innings with a lovely boundary. Ravindra Jadeja looked cautious against Anderson and Robinson. Pant took the attack to England bowlers keeping the scoreboard ticking. Jadeja looked composed with his strokes making life tough for hosts.
After the first drinks break, Pant and Jadeja showed intent in keeping the scoreboard ticking. Mark Wood got his first wicket dismissing Pant
who tried to hit the boundary but took an edge to Buttler. Pant and Jadeja added 49
runs for the 6th wicket. Mohammed Shami did not open his account
chipping a catch to Rory Burns. It was a disciplined bowling effort by the
England bowlers not allowing Indian batsmen to score runs easily. Jadeja kept most
of the strike as India ended the first session at 346 for 7.
Ishant Sharma remained solid with his defensive technique
providing help to Jadeja. The veteran James Anderson broke the partnership
ending the innings for Ishant. Ishant Sharma asked for a review that was struck
down due to the umpire's call. Anderson took his 5th wicket dismissing
Jasprit Bumrah. Jadeja went for a big shot as he did not have any trust on
Mohammed Siraj as India bowled out for 364 runs.
Rory Burns and Dom Sibley remained cautious against
disciplined bowling by the Indian bowlers. Rohit Sharma could not take the
catch fell short of him. Both openers made sure that England went into tea
break at 23 for 0.
Mohammed Siraj provided India a perfect dismissing Dom
Sibley off the first ball taking leading edge to KL Rahul. He then produced
peach to get rid the wicket of Haseeb Hameed to leave England struggling. Siraj
troubled Joe Root with stunning deliveries. On the request of Siraj, India
burnt 2 reviews.
Joe Root and Burns played according to the merit putting
Indian bowlers under pressure. Burns survived few anxious moments but remained
solid. Ravindra Jadeja was bought into the attack and troubled England Root and
Burns.
Mohammed Siraj got the important breakthrough getting rid of
Burns via LBW. Burns decided to review but was retained to out. Burns and Root
added 84 runs for the 3rd wicket. Shami looked threatening making ball
talk. England ended 2nd day at 118 for 3 with Bairstow and Root at
the crease.
England 119 for 3 in 45 overs (Burns 49, Root 48*, Siraj
2/34, Shami 1/22) trail India 364 in 126.1 overs ( KL Rahul 129, Kohli 42,
Jadeja 40, Anderson 5/62, Robinson 2/73) by 245 runs.
