India versus England 2nd Test 5th Day: India beat England to clinch historic victory
Thanks to the special effort, the Indian Cricket Team registered a historic win over England in a thrilling contest on the fifth and final day of 2nd Test match played at Lords, London on Monday.
The England captain Joe Root decided to take the 2nd
new ball immediately. Starting on the overnight score of 181 for 6, Rishabh
Pant played a lovely stroke coming down hitting a boundary to James Anderson.
Soon after, Robinson struck an important blow getting rid of Pant leaving India
under pressure. Ishant Sharma was promoted ahead of Shami and did a superb job.
Mark Wood peppered Shami and Ishant with bouncers but did not yield any
results.
Robinson dismissed Ishant Sharma with a slower delivery
given out LBW. Mark Wood produced bouncers to Bumrah and Shami but the
tailenders kept their calm. England captain Root's field placement was not up to
the mark. After the spell by Anderson, Robinson, and Wood, Bumrah and Shami
played some lovely strokes off Moeen Ali and Sam Curran.
Bumrah and Shami complemented each other making life tough
for the England bowlers. It was an amazing display of batting by both batsmen
showing great courage and fight. Joe Root dropped a simple chance to dismiss
Bumrah. Shami looked in brilliant touch hitting big strokes against Moeen Ali
and reached his fifty off 57 balls to derail England's chances. India went into
the lunch break at 286 for 8.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami enjoyed themselves putting
on unbeaten 89 runs for the 9th wicket as Virat Kohli decided to declare
their innings setting England 272 runs in 60 overs.
It was an ideal start for the visitors as Bumrah and Shami
dismissed Burns and Dom Sibley for ducks respectively to leave England in big
trouble. England captain Root came to the crease looking positive making life
tough for the Indian team. Haseeb Hameed also looked solid with the defense before
Ishant Sharma produced a peach to dismiss Hameed. Hameed was given out by the
umpire but on review, it was retained as the umpire's call. Hameed and Root added 43
runs for the 3rd wicket.
The Indian pace bowlers did not allow England batsmen to
score runs easily. At the stroke of tea break, Ishant Sharma got rid of Jonny
Bairstow with a review. The review was successful for India as the decision was
overturned to out as England ended the 2nd session in trouble at 67
for 4.
With 6 wickets needed to win in the final session, Bumrah
produced the perfect start for India getting rid of England captain Joe Root taking
the edge to Virat Kohli at slips. Buttler was reprieved as Kohli dropped a
tough chance. Moeen Ali and Buttler showed great solid defense against top-quality Indian bowling.
Mohammed Siraj was bought into the attack and got wickets of
Moeen Ali and Sam Curran off successive deliveries to leave India on verge of a historic victory. There was lots of verbal chatting between Kohli and Robinson.
Jos Buttler and Robinson looked solid with their defensive technique.
Bumrah changed his angle with a slower delivery deceiving Robinson. The umpire
gave it not out and on review, it was overturned to out.
Mohammed Siraj produced another superb delivery to dismiss
Jos Buttler was caught by Pant and then castled Anderson with a beauty helping Team
India register a remarkable 151 runs win.
India 364 in 126.1 overs ( KL Rahul
129, Rohit Sharma 83, Kohli 42, James Anderson 5/62, Robinson 2/71) and 298 for
8 in 109.3 overs ( Rahane 61, Shami 56*,
Pujara 45, Mark Wood 3/51, Moeen Ali 2/84) beat England 391 in 128 overs (Root
180*, Bairstow 57, Siraj 4/94, Sharma 3/69) and 120 in 51.5 overs ( Root 33,
Buttler 25, Siraj 4/32, Bumrah 3/33) by 151 runs.
India registered a famous win after
being in trouble on the 4th day. Thanks to a brilliant partnership
between Bumrah and Shami, they put England on backfoot.
KL Rahul was awarded the man of the
match for his 129 runs in the first innings. With this win, India takes a 1-0 lead.
The third test match will be played from 25th August at Headingly,
Leeds.
