India versus England 3rd Test 1st Day: England in a commanding position
Thanks to a brilliant bowling effort and solid opening partnership, the England Cricket Team ended the 1st Day of the 3rd Test in a commanding position played at Headingly, Leeds on Wednesday.
Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat
first. It was a disastrous start for the visitors as KL Rahul could not resist giving a simple catch for Buttler. Anderson produced another good delivery to dismiss
Cheteshwar Pujara leaving India in big trouble at 4 for 2. The Indian captain
Kohli looked confident and left the ball.
After some lovely shots, James Anderson dismissed Indian
captain Virat Kohli trying to play expansive drive with an easy catch to
Buttler leaving visitors in massive trouble. Rohit Sharma and Ajiyanka Rahane
steadied the innings with some confident stroke play against disciplined English
bowling.
Sam Curran troubled Rohit Sharma and Rahane with cracking
deliveries. The experienced duo looked comfortable taking India out of
trouble. At the stroke of lunch break, Ollie Robinson got rid of Rahane. Rahane
and Rohit added 35 runs for the 4th wicket as India scored 56 for 4.
Soon after the lunch break, Rishabh Pant did not look
comfortable and then played rash stroke to be caught by Jos Buttler off
Robinson. The Indian batting line-up did not capitalize on the toss as England
bowlers kept on the pressure. Craig Overton dismissed well-set Rohit Sharma to make
matters worst for India. Overton then dismissed Mohammed Shami off his first
ball. Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah were given out but on review, the decision was
retained. It was downhill as England skittled India out for 78. Craig Overton
and Anderson grabbed 3 wickets while Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran dismissed 2
each.
In reply, Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed started off
confidently putting pressure on wayward Indian bowling. England showed
confidence ending the 2nd session at 21 for 0.
After the tea break, Burns and Haseeb Hameed played decently
before putting pressure on the Indian bowling. Kohli bought changes but the
England openers showed keeping scoreboard ticking.
Ravindra Jadeja went off the field while stopping the boundary. The
England openers took the advantage. Indian team was unlucky as few deliveries
between the fielders. Hameed completed his fifty-off 110 deliveries while Burns
completed fifty off 123 balls. It was a dominating display by England as they
ended the 1st day at 120 for 0.
England 120 for 0 in 42 overs ( Haseeb Hameed 60*, Burns
52*, 0/19) lead India 78 in 40.4 overs ( Rohit Sharma 19, Rahane 18, Anderson
3/6, Overton 3/14) by 42 runs.
