India versus England 3rd Test 3rd Day: Indian batsmen fightback with gusty performances
The Indian batsmen ensured that they fightback with a confident performance on the 3rd day of the 3rd Test match played at Headingly, Leeds on Saturday.
It was an ideal start for the Indian Cricket Team as
Mohammed Shami got rid of Overton with a good delivery nipping and plumb in
front. Overton decided to review the decision and was retained. After one solitary
over, Jasprit Bumrah castled Robinson stump as India bowled out England for 432
runs with a lead of 354 runs.
The Indian openers were cautious enough against top-quality
bowling off Anderson and Robinson. Rohit Sharma got the first boundary for India
keeping England bowlers at bay. After the initial spell, Root decided to bring
Overton into the bowling attack. KL Rahul was given out but at the clock, he decided to
review the decision and it was overturned to not out as it missed the leg
stump. Rohit Sharma looked confident with his strokes. At the stroke of lunch
break, a superb one-handed catch by Jonny Bairstow at slips ended the struggle
for KL Rahul. India went into the lunch break at 34 for 1.
Cheteshwar Pujara looked in great touch right from the word hitting
James Anderson for boundaries. Ollie Robinson and Overton bowled tight lines
and lengths, but the experienced duo kept the England bowlers at bay. Joe Root decided
not to take a review as Rohit Sharma was LBW. Rohit and Pujara showed their
class keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Rohit Sharma left the good balls away and hit bad deliveries
for boundaries completing his fifty off 125 balls. It was a superb session for
Indian team as they went into the tea break with the scoreboard reading 112 for 1.
The third session started off brightly for England as
Robinson dismissed Rohit Sharma missing a straighter one given out by the
umpire. Rohit and Pujara added 82 runs for the 2nd wicket. Pujara
showed intent hitting bad balls away for boundaries reaching fifty off just 91
balls. The Indian captain Virat Kohli came to the crease and looked confident
with his stride.
Root decided to bring James Anderson into the attack, but
Pujara and Kohli showed intent making life tough for England. The experienced duo
kept on rotating the strike making life tough. Root decided to bring himself on
and troubled both batsmen. Despite struggles, Kohli and Pujara kept on rotating
the scoreboard.
With the 2nd new ball looming large, the play was
called off due to bad light. India ended the 3rd day at 215 for 2 still
trail by 141 runs.
