IPL 2021 Match 33: Delhi Capitals go top of points table with a resounding win

Delhi Capitals produced a dominating display to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad easily in the 33rd match of IPL 2021 played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Wednesday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for SRH as their star player David Warner was dismissed off the third ball by Anrich Nortje. Wriddhiman Saha played with intent putting pressure on DC bowlers with aggressive strokes. After looking threatening, Saha eventually was dismissed trying to pull providing an easy catch to Dhawan.

At the end of the first six overs, SRH posted 32 for 2. Marcus Stoinis bowled a decent 1st over before going off the field due to groin strain. Pant dropped a chance to get rid of Williamson. Williamson got another reprieve as Prithivi Shaw dropped him. At the end of the first timeout, SRH scored 45 for 2.

After the timeout, Axar Patel dismissed SRH captain Williamson to dent SRH's chances of posting a good total. Williamson and Manish Pandey added 31 runs for the 3rd wicket. Kagiso Rabada took a simple return catch to dismiss Manish Pandey to leave SRH in trouble at 61 for 4.

Anrich Nortje produced a peach getting the wicket of Kedar Jadhav to put SRH under immense pressure. West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder could not contribute many runs dismissed by Axar Patel. At the end of the 2nd timeout, SRH looked in deep trouble at 90 for 6.

Stoinis struggled with his hamstring issue and had to hobble off. Samad provided some impetus for hitting some big shots. Samad was caught by Pant hitting the top edge into the hands of Pant. Rashid Khan also kept the pressure on DC bowlers with attacking strokes before being run out in an attempt to take the strike. Despite aggressive strokes, SRH could only post 134 for 9 in 20 overs.

Chasing 135 runs to win, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithivi Shaw made an aggressive start to the innings. A decent catch by Kane Williamson ended in the wicket of Shaw. Shreyas Iyer looked cautious at the start while Dhawan kept his superb form with positive strokes. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals made 39 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Rashid Khan was bought into the attack. Dhawan and Iyer put SRH bowlers under pressure keeping the scoreboard ticking. Both teams went into the first timeout at 51 for 1.

DC captain Pant came to the crease showing class with his hitting abilities while Iyer looked in decent touch. At end of 2nd timeout, DC scored 96 for 2.

Rashid Khan was bought by Williamson for his fourth over as both Pant and Iyer played him safely. Both batsmen kept hitting boundaries at will. Iyer hit the winning shot with a six to help the Delhi Capitals register 8 wicket win with 13 balls to spare.

Iyer and Pant added unbeaten 67 runs for the 3rd wicket. It was a dominating performance by the Delhi Capitals team to restrict SRH for a modest total before the batsmen chased down the target easily.

Delhi Capitals 139 for 2 in 17.5 overs (Iyer 47*, Dhawan 42, Pant 35*, Rashid Khan 1/26) beat SRH 134 for 9 in 20 overs ( Abdul Samad 28, Rashid Khan 22, Kagiso Rabada 3/37, Nortje 2/12) by 8 wickets.
