IPL 2021 Match 37: Punjab Kings knock out SRH in a low scoring thriiler
In the second match, Punjab Kings held their nerves to
defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in a low-scoring thriller played at Sharjah Cricket
Stadium, Sharjah on Saturday.
SRH captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to
field first. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started off cautiously. A superb
one-handed catch by substitute fielder J Suchith resulted in the wicket of KL Rahul.
In the same over, Holder struck again to get rid of Mayank Agarwal to leave
Punjab Kings struggling.
Chris Gayle and Aiden Markram were not able to put pressure
on SRH bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, Punjab Kings scored 29 for
2.
At the end of the first timeout, Punjab Kings scored 45 for
2. Rashid Khan got rid of dangerous Gayle with a quicker delivery.
SRH bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals and
did not allow Punjab Kings to score runs easily. Before the end of 2nd
timeout, Deepak Hooda fell to leave Punjab Kings in deep trouble at 96 for 6.
Harpreet Brar and Nathan Ellis put some vital runs in the
last few overs to help Punjab Kings post 125 for 7 in 20 overs.
It was not an ideal start for SRH as they lost 2 early
wickets of Warner and captain Kane Williamson off Mohammed Shami’s bowling.
Punjab Kings bowlers kept tight leash on SRH batsmen. At the end of the first
six overs, SRH scored 20 for 2.
Wriddhiman Saha struggled for timing along with Manish
Pandey. Ravi Bishnoi produced a superb delivery to dismiss Pandey. Kedar Jadhav
could not contribute much as he was bowled by Bishnoi.
Bishnoi got his third wicket getting rid of Abdul Samad with
a wild swing and caught by Chris Gayle at short third man. At the end of the 2nd
timeout, SRH scored 91 for 5.
Jason Holder looked in sublime touch and put SRH bowlers
under pressure with his power-hitting. Soon after the timeout, Saha was run out
involved in a mix-up to leave SRH struggling. Holder and Saha added 32 runs for
the 6th wicket. Holder kept SRH in the hunt with lusty blows.
Arshdeep Singh bowled a brilliant 19th over
giving away just 4 runs and grabbing the wicket of Rashid Khan. With 17 runs
required from 6 balls, Holder blasted Nathan Ellis for a six to keep SRH in the hunt.
Ellis fought back strongly to hold his nerves and helped
Punjab Kings win the match by just 5 runs.
Punjab Kings 125 for 7 in 20 overs ( Markram 27, KL Rahul
21, Jason Holder 3/19) beat SRH 120 for 7 in 20 overs ( Holder 47*, Saha 31,
Ravi Bishnoi 3/24) by 5 runs.
For his brilliant performance with 47 runs and 3 for 19,
Jason Holder was awarded the man of the match award.
