IPL Match 36: Delhi Capitals inch closer to playoff stage with a resounding win over RR
Delhi Capitals bowlers produced a dominating display to defeat Rajasthan Royals played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
After being invited into bat by Sanju Samson, Delhi Capitals
lost 2 early wickets of inform Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw. Shreyas Iyer and
DC captain Pant steadied the ship as they scored 36 for 2 in the first six
overs.
Iyer and Pant kept Delhi Capitals steady as they went into
the first timeout at 56 for 2. Iyer put the pressure on RR bowlers hitting
boundaries keeping strike rotating. Rahman struck getting rid of Pant taking inside
edge onto the stumps. Pant and Iyer added 62 runs for the 3rd
wicket. Soon after, Iyer was brilliantly stumped by Samson to leave DC in some
trouble. With that, the second timeout was called with scoreboard reading 90
for 4.
Shimron Hetymer looked in great touch smashing Karthik Tyagi
for 3 boundaries to bring back Delhi on course. Hetymer was caught by Sakaryia at
short third man. Hetymer and Lalit Yadav added 31 runs for the 5th
wicket.
Rajasthan Royals bowlers kept tight lines and lengths over
Delhi Capitals on a tough batting pitch to restrict them to 154 for 6 in 20
overs.
Chasing 155 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for RR as
Liam Livingstone was dismissed by Avesh Khan in the very first over with a good
diving catch by Pant. In the very next over, Nortje got rid of Jaiswal via
review. The umpire gave it not out and on review, it was overturned to out to
leave RR in trouble.
Sanju Samson was given out by the umpire and on review, it
was overturned to not out as it hit the arm. David Miller could not resist
pressure stumped by Pant off Ashwin’s bowling. At the end of the first six
overs, Rajasthan Royals scored 20 for 3.
Mahipal Lomror and Samson tried to steady the ship for RR
with tight bowling by DC. At the end of the first timeout, RR scored 43 for 3.
After the timeout, Rabada struck soon to dismiss Lomror with
a simple catch by Avesh Khan at fine leg. Axar Patel then got rid of Riyan
Parag leaving RR in dire straits.
Sanju Samson tried his best but it was a tough ask for RR.
At the end of the second timeout, RR scored 82 for 5. Samson reached his
half-century off 39 balls. On other hand, Rahul Tewaita could not provide support
to Samson. Samson smacked 3 boundaries off Rabada’s over but it was not enough
as Rajasthan Royals scored just 121 for 6 in 20 overs.
Delhi Capitals 154 for 6 in 20 overs ( Iyer 43, Hetymer 28,
Rahman 2/22, Sakaryia 2/33) beat Rajasthan Royals 121 for 6 in 20 overs (
Samson 70*, Anrich Nortje 2/18) by 33 runs.
For his 43 off 32 balls, Shreyas Iyer was awarded the man of
the match. With this win, Delhi Capitals moved up to the top of the points table.
