IPL Match 43: RCB inch closer to playoffs stage with a dominating win over RR
Royal Challengers Bangalore showed their domination as they
defeated Rajasthan Royals in the 43rd match of IPL 2021 played at Dubai
International Stadium, Dubai on Wednesday.
RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field
first. Jaiswal and Evin Lewis started the innings on an aggressive note-taking
on the RCB bowlers especially Glenn Maxwell. RR openers showed intent in keeping the scoreboard ticking and making life tough for the opposition. At the end of the
first six overs, Lewis and Jaiswal kept RR on course for a big total with
scoreboard reading 56 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.
After the timeout, Lewis and Jaiswal continued to put
pressure on RCB bowlers. Daniel Christian made an important breakthrough for
Kohli dismissing Jaiswal with a simple catch to Siraj. Lewis and Jaiswal added 77
runs laying a strong foundation to build on a big total. Sanju Samson looked
impressive with his strokes while Lewis reached his fifty off 31 balls. Garton
making his IPL debut got the big wicket of Lewis to stem the flow of runs for
RR. Chahal produced magical delivery to dismiss Lomror coming down the track and
stumped by Bharat to leave RR in trouble.
At the end of the 2nd timeout, Rajasthan Royals
made 113 for 3. Right after the timeout, RCB bowlers kept a tight leash on RR
batsmen picking wickets at regular intervals. Shahbaz Ahmed struck twice in one
over getting RR captain Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewaita providing catches to
Paddikal.
Chahal did the damage one more time getting rid of Liam
Livingstone with a simple catch to AB de Villiers at long-on. Harshal Patel did a
great job in the final over with 3 wickets dismissing Riyan Parag, Chris
Morris off successive deliveries and then took Chetan Sakaryia off the last
ball. It was a superb bowling effort to restrict RR for a modest total of 149 for
9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 150 runs to win, Virat Kohli began off brilliantly with
3 boundaries including a leading edge over the slips. Paddikal and Kohli took the
attack to RR bowlers keeping pressure on them. Sanju Samson dropped a chance.
Rahman made an important breakthrough dismissing Paddikal with good delivery.
Paddikal and Kohli added 48 runs for the opening wicket. It was an aggressive
display of batting by Kohli showing intent right from word go. At the end of the
first six overs, RCB scored 54 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Kohli fell short of the crease
as Riyan Parag produced a brilliant direct hit. KS Bharat and Glenn Maxwell
kept the pressure on RR bowlers with aggressive strokes. Rahman produced a
brilliant effort to stop a certain six. Bharat showed great improvement in taking
on RR pacers and making life easy for RCB. On the other hand, Maxwell continued
his class with positive hitting.
Bharat and Maxwell ensured that RCB ended the 2nd
timeout at 106 for 2. After the timeout, Bharat fell providing an easy catch to
Anuj Rawat at fine leg. Maxwell and Bharat added 69 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
Maxwell impressed once more time completing his fifty off 30
balls while taking on Chris Morris. AB de Villiers hit the winning runs to help
RCB win the match by 7 wickets with 17 balls to spare.
RCB 153 for 3 in 17.1 overs (Maxwell 50*, Srikar Bharat 44,
Rahman 2/20) beat RR 149 for 9 in 20 overs ( Evin Lewis 58, Jaiswal 31, Harshal
Patel 3/34, Chahal 2/18) by 7 wickets.
With this win, RCB consolidated the 3rd position
with 14 points. For his 2 for 18 in 4 overs, Chahal was awarded the man of the
match.
