ICC World Cup 2021 Super 12 Group 2: Pakistan thrash India with a commanding win
Pakistan finally registered their first win in World Cup history with a thumping win over arch-rivals India played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Sunday.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to
field first. Shaheen Shah Afridi broke the backbone of the Indian batting line-up
getting wickets of Rohit Sharma and then KL Rahul with beauties. Surya Kumar
Yadav looked in decent touch keeping momentum for India while Kohli looked a little
cautious.
Mohammad Rizwan took a lovely catch to dismiss Surya Kumar
Yadav leaving India in some trouble. At the end of the first six overs, India made
just 36 for 3. Pant played Pakistani spinners brilliantly taking on Shahabad
Khan and then took on Hasan Ali with boundaries. On the other hand, Kohli kept
rotating the strike with singles and hitting occasional big shots.
The leg spinner Khan grabbed the important wicket of Pant as
he took a tough return catch. Pant and Kohli added 53 runs for the 4th
wicket. Kohli upped the ante with brilliant strokes making life tough for
Pakistani bowlers. Haris Rauf brilliantly did not allow Jadeja and Kohli to hit massive
shots.
Hasan Ali grabbed the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja to stall
India’s progress. Kohli looked in superb touch to complete fifty off 45 balls. The
Pakistani fielding was brilliant in keeping India under check. Hardik Pandya
struggled for timing as he was hit on the arm by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Afridi
got rid of Kohli in death overs. It was a good bowling effort to restrict India
for a modest total.
In reply, Rizwan started off well with boundaries off Bhuvneshwar
Kumar. Varun Chakravarthy and Bumrah bowled decent overs but both Pakistani
openers took them to 43 for 0 at the end of the first six overs.
After the field restrictions, Rizwan and Babar took the advantage
of dew made batting look easy. With pressure on, both openers took chance
making life easier for them. Azam completed his fifty off 40 balls while Rizwan
reached his half-century off 41 balls. It was a dominating display by Pakistani
openers as they chased down this target with 13 deliveries to spare.
Pakistan 152 for 0 in 17.5 overs ( Rizwan 79*, Babar Azam
68*) beat India 151 for 7 in 20 overs ( Kohli 57, Pant 39, Shaheen Shah Afridi
3/31) by 10 wickets.
For his 3 for 31 in 4 overs, Shaheen Shah Afridi was named
the man of the match award.
Pakistan thrash India by 10 wickets to start the tournament on a winning note
