ICC World T20 2021 Super 12 stage Group 1 : Dominating England crush Bangladesh
Thanks to a brilliant effort with both bat and ball, England registered their second successive win defeating Bangladesh played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah won the toss and decided to
bat first. Liton Das started the innings brightly with 2 lovely boundaries off
Moeen Ali in the opening over. Moeen Ali struck dismissing Das and Naim Islam in
his 2nd over to dent Bangladesh's chances. England bowlers kept it
tight not allowing Bangladesh batters to score runs easily. A brilliant diving
catch by Adil Rashid ended the innings for Shakib AL Hasan. At the end of the first
six overs, Bangladesh posted 27 for 3.
After the field restrictions, the experienced duo of Mahmudullah
and Rahim steadied the ship for Bangladesh taking singles and hitting occasional
boundaries. Liam Livingstone got rid of Rahim via a review for LBW. The umpire
gave it not out, the decision was overturned to out. Rahim and Mahmudullah
added 37 runs for the 4th wicket. Bangladesh lost another wicket as
Afif Hossain was run out involved in a mix-up with Mahmudullah. The captain also
fell in an attempt to score runs quickly.
England bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals
making life tough for Bangladeshi batters. Nasum Ahmed provided some hope with
2 sixes and 1 four in the 19th over by Adil Rashid. Tymal Mills bowled a
brilliant 20th over taking 2 wickets of Nurul Hasan and Rahman.
Bangladesh posted just 124 for 8.
In reply to 125 runs to win, it was an aggressive start by
Jason Roy and Buttler putting the Bangladeshi bowlers under pressure. Nasum
Ahmed struck for Bangladesh getting rid of Buttler caught by Naim. Buttler and
Roy put on 39 runs laying a strong foundation. At the end of the first six
overs, England raced away to 50 for 1.
Roy looked in sublime touch taking on Bangladesh bowlers
while Dawid Malan gave the strike to the opener. It was an amazing batting display
by Roy coming down the track and putting Bangladeshi bowlers under pressure.
Roy completed his fifty off just 33 balls to put England on course for a
victory. He was eventually caught by Nasum Ahmed at third man. Roy and Malan
added 73 runs for the 2nd wicket. Bairstow hit the winning runs to
help England chase this target with ease.
England 126 for 2 in 14.1 overs ( Jason Roy 61, Malan 28*, Shoriful
Islam 1/26) beat Bangladesh 124 for 9 in 20 overs ( Rahim 29, Tymal Mills 3/27,
Moeen 2/18) by 8 wickets.
For his 61 off 38 balls, Jason Roy was named the man of the match
award. England moved to the top of the points table with 2 wins in a row.
