Mujeeb Ur Rahman wreaks havoc in his debut World Cup game
Afghanistan started the World Cup journey on a winning note crushing Scotland by a big margin played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.
Mohammad Nabi won the toss and decided to bat first. It was
a great batting performance as Mohammad Shahzad and Zazai put on 54 runs for
the opening wicket laying a strong foundation. Najibullah Zadran and Gurbaz
created enough pressure on Scotland bowlers keeping the scoreboard adding on 87
runs for the 3rd wicket. At the end of 20 overs, Afghanistan posted
190 for 4 in 20 overs.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled the opening over of the innings as
Munsey played reverse sweeps. After that, Rahman created a major impact dismissing
Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer and then got the wicket of Calcum McLeod to leave
them under immense pressure. Mujeeb got better with his bowling dismissing
Richard Berrington, top scorer Munsey. He produced another beauty to dismiss
Mark Watt ending his 4 overs giving away just 20 runs and picking 5 wickets. Mujeeb
and Rashid wreaked havoc to bowl out Scotland for a paltry total of 60 runs in
just 10.1 overs.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman playing his first World Cup game bowled
with accuracy making life tough for Scotland bowlers. For his match-winning
spell of 5 for 20 in 4 overs, he was awarded the man of the match award. He demonstrated
great skills as Scotland batters had no clue about his variations.
The leg spinner recorded the fifth-best figures by a bowler
in World T20 history. Ajantha Mendis holds the best figures with 6 for 8
against Zimbabwe in 2012.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman was simply unplayable and made life tough
for Scotland batters. Munsey tried his best to counter but fell in an attempt to
reverse sweeps. He would be looking to perform well in the upcoming matches
against top teams like India, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
