India versus New Zealand 2nd T20I: India seal the series with a comfortable win

The Indian Cricket Team produced another great display of cricket as they defeated New Zealand in the 2nd T20I match played at JSCA International Stadium, Ranchi on Friday.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell provided a flying start for New Zealand putting Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar under immense pressure with a flurry of boundaries and sixes. Deepak Chahar got rid of dangerous Guptill trying to hit a big shot caught by Pant. The Kiwis openers added 48 runs in 4.2 overs laying a strong foundation. Mark Chapman showed intent in keeping the momentum going on for New Zealand. At the end of the first six overs, New Zealand raced away to 64 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Chapman and Mitchell maintained the momentum for the visitors. R Ashwin and Axar Patel did not allow Kiwis batters to score runs easily. Patel got rid of Chapman caught by KL Rahul. Chapman and Mitchell added 31 runs for the 2nd wicket. Harshal Patel making his T20I debut for Team India got his first wicket getting rid of Mitchell to leave Kiwis struggling. Glenn Phillips put the pressure back on the Indian bowlers hitting sixes easily while Tim Seifert struggled against Indian bowlers.

R Ashwin in his final over got the wicket of Seifert caught at short third man trying to reverse sweep. Seifert and Phillips added 35 runs for the 4th wicket. The Indian bowlers kept the things tight not allowing James Neesham and other Kiwis batters to score runs easily. Phillips was caught off a bad delivery caught at deep midwicket by Gaikwad. The Indian death bowling was spot on not giving runs at all and restricting New Zealand to 153 for 6 in 20 overs. Harshal Patel bowled slower deliveries to Mitchell Santer and Milne who could not hit for runs. Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar kept New Zealand on the backfoot with some tight overs.

Chasing 154 runs to win, KL Rahul looked in great touch putting the bad balls away for boundaries while Rohit Sharma struggled due to tight bowling by Kiwi bowlers. Rahul maintained the momentum for India with big shots. At the end of the first six overs, India scored 45 for 0.

After the field restrictions, Rohit Sharma upped the ante taking on Santer and Ish Sodhi with a flurry of big shots that took his innings going. KL Rahul played with intent completing his fifty off 40 deliveries while Rohit Sharma reached his half-century from 35 balls. Stand-in captain Tim Southee dismissed well-set KL Rahul caught by Phillips. The Indian openers added 117 runs to lay a strong foundation for a massive win.

Southee dismissed Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar Yadav in the one over to bring some hopes. Venkatesh Iyer was promoted to number 3 but looked a little edgy. Pant hit the winning runs with a six off James Neesham helping Team India win the match easily by 7 wickets.

India 155 for 3 in 17.2 overs (KL Rahul 65, Rohit Sharma 55, Tim Southee 3/16) beat New Zealand 153 for 6 in 20 overs (Glenn Phillips 34, Guptill 31, Harshal Patel 2/25) by 7 wickets.
