Indonesia Masters 2021: PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth move into the semi-finals
The two Indian shuttlers remaining in the fray moved into the semi-finals of Super 750 Indonesia Masters with easy wins over their opponents played at Bali, Indonesia on Friday.
PV Sindhu had no problems defeating World number Yigit of
Turkey in two straight games. It was a dominating display by two-time Olympic medallists
not allowing her opponent any chances in the game. She was at her best and won
the game by 21-13, 21-10 in just 35 minutes. With this win, the Indian continued
her head-to-head record against the Turkish 4-0.
Sindhu will now face Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the
semi-finals. The Indian has now a tough opponent after facing easy opponents
till today’s match. It should be a great encounter as Yamaguchi is currently the
top seed in this tournament and world number 5. Sindhu has won both matches so far,
they met this year so far.
In all Indian quarterfinals, Kidambi Srikanth outplayed HS
Prannoy in two straight games. It was a dominating display by Srikanth who
played attacking badminton and won the first game easily by 21-7.
The second game saw HS Prannoy begin taking a 5-2 lead, but
Srikanth made a strong comeback to take lead at the mid-game interval. After
the break, the former number world 1 took a 15-12 lead before Prannoy leveled the score at 15-15. Srikanth looked in great touch and made it into his second successive
semi-finals. It was a great performance by Srikanth has been in decent form so
far after a disappointing year.
Srikanth will now face Anders Antonsen in the semi-finals tomorrow.
Sindhu reached the semi-finals of the French Open 2021 while Srikanth made it into
the last 4 stages of the Hylo Open 2021 played last week. The two Indians will be
hoping to make the finals and keep the flag high.
