Indonesia Masters 2021: PV Sindhu and Srikanth lose in the semi-finals
The Indian challenge ended as both remaining shuttlers lost their semi-finals encounters easily in the Super 750 Indonesia Masters played at Bali, Indonesia on Saturday.
PV Sindhu was completely outplayed by her opponent Akane Yamaguchi
of Japan in two straight games. The Japanese opponent start the game on an
aggressive note putting the Indian under pressure. Yamaguchi did not allow her
opponent a chance with brilliant shots and made life tough for the Indian. At
the mid-game interval, Yamaguchi had an 11-5 lead. After the interval, Yamaguchi
maintained the momentum with attacking shots as Sindhu made unforced errors as the Japanese won the first game easily at 21-13.
The second game saw both PV Sindhu and Yamaguchi start on an even keel. Despite Sindhu having lead for a brief time, Yamaguchi's great touch-hitting smashes put
Sindhu under pressure. At the mid-game interval, Yamaguchi had a commanding
11-4 lead. The Japanese continued her aggressive play and did not allow any
chance to the Indian win the second set easily at 21-9. The Japanese won
the game easily by 21-13, 21-9.
Kidambi Srikanth also went down in straight games to Anders Antonsen
of Denmark. It was a decent start as Srikanth hold Antonsen to 3-3, 4-4, 5-5. The
Danish player put enough pressure on the Indian and dominated with aggressive
play. At the mid-game interval, Antonsen had an 11-7 lead. After the break,
Srikanth reduced the gap to one point before Antonsen looked in complete
control winning the first game easily at 21-14.
In the second game, both players started with 4-4 points each,
but Dane took 8 points in succession to dominate Srikanth taking a 12-4 lead. Antonsen
never let his guard down making life tough for the Indian and won the second
game easily at 21-9. Srikanth has done brilliantly reaching back-to-back
semi-finals to be in a safe position for World Tour Finals.
