Indonesia Open 2021: Indian shuttlers lose in the semi-finals
The Indian challenge ended as both PV Sindhu and the men’s doubles pair lost in the semi-finals of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Bali, Indonesia on Saturday.
PV Sindhu went down fighting to Intanon of Thailand in three
games. Indian started on an
aggressive note taking an 8-3 lead before the experienced Thai player came back
strongly to reduce the gap to 9-10. Sindhu held a one-point lead at the
interval. After the mid-game interval, the Indian looked in complete control
and won the first game easily at 21-15.
In the second game, Ratchnok put on a strong showing as took
a commanding 11-7 lead at the interval. After the break, the Thai player showed
intent right from word go and made life tough for the Indian taking the next 10
points to win the second game easily to be at game point. Sindhu hit into the
net handing the opposition second game.
Sindhu committed too many unforced errors in the deciding
game as Ratchnok took a commanding 11-6 lead at the interval. After the break,
Intanon played brilliantly and went into a decent lead. Sindhu took four points
in succession to reduce the gap at 13-16. Inatnon kept Indian on the backfoot
and won decider at 21-14.
The men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and
Chirag Shetty lost to top-seeded Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya in two
straight games. It was an impressive performance by the young Indian pairing
giving a tough fight to the top-seeded pair of Indonesia.
It was a closely fought first game as the Indian pair looked
confident with their smashes but lost momentum at important times to lose it by
16-21.
The second game saw both pairs fighting for each point as
there were long rallies. Satwik and Chirag took a slender 11-10 lead at the
interval. After the break, the Indian pair looked confident putting the Indonesian
pair under pressure. Gideon and Sanjaya showed their experience to win the second
game at 21-18.
