Junior Hockey World Cup 2021: India registers their first win with a crushing win over Canada
After being shocked by the 26th ranked French side, the Indian team put on a dominating display in their 2nd Group match against Canada played at Kalinga Stadium, Bhuvneshwar on Thursday.
It was an aggressive start by the Indian team as Uttam
scored via a field goal in the 6th minute. Indian captain Vivek Prasad
made it 2-0 with a superb goal. The Indian forwards put so much pressure on the Canadian
defense making their life tough. At the end first quarter, the hosts led 2-0.
The second quarter began off brightly as Sanjay scored a goal
via penalty stroke in the 17th minute to give India a 3-0 lead. After
a decent start, both teams kept on putting pressure on each other goals but
could not succeed. Manider converted another field goal in the 27th
minute to give India a 4-0 lead. Right at the stroke of the first half, Tardiff
scored from penalty corner opening their account.
Sanjay scored from a penalty corner in the 32nd
minute to give India a 5-1 lead. The Indian team continued their aggressive play
as Shardanand converted a penalty corner into a goal making life miserable for
the visitors. India converted from another PC as Arajeet made it 7-1 in the 40th
minute. At the end of the third quarter, hosts enjoyed a 7-1 lead.
The fourth quarter saw more aggression from India as Uttam
scored his second goal of the match in the 47th minute. Arajeet scored
two goals in quick succession in 50th and 51st minutes to lead
India with a commanding 10-1 lead. The last three goals from a penalty corner
as Shardanand, Abhishek, and Sanjay scored one each. Indian team showed their
domination winning the match by 13-1 as they opened their account after losing
to France by 4-5.
With this win, India moved up to 2nd in the points
table. France made it into the quarterfinals defeating Poland. India will take
on Poland in their league match on 27th November.
