Ashes 2021/22 Day 4 Test 2: Australia on course for a massive win
The Australian Cricket team ended the 4th day on course for a big win against England played at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Sunday.
Starting the 4th day on 45 for 1, James Anderson
and Stuart Broad produced a magical spell troubling Neser and Harris. The
veteran Anderson got the first wicket getting rid of Neser with stunning
delivery. Soon after, a superb one-handed catch by Jos Buttler resulted in the wicket
of Marcus Harris to leave Australia struggling. Steve Smith was given a
reprieve of the very first ball dropped by Jos Buttler and then a close LBW shout
called not out, on review it was retained due to the umpires' call. James Anderson
and Broad looked lethal not allowing quick runs against Labuschagne. Jos
Buttler again took a lovely catch down the leg of Steve Smith to leave
Australia in some trouble.
Travis Head came to the crease and put pressure on England
bowlers with attacking strokes. After struggling initially, Labuschagne kept the scoreboard ticking. Ollie Robinson delivered off-spin to compensate for slow
over-rate. At the end of the first session, Australia ended at 134 for 4.
After the dinner break, Travis Head continued the momentum
for Australia reaching his fifty off 49 balls. The stand-in captain Stokes took
a brilliant diving catch to dismiss Head. Head and Labuschagne added 89 runs
for the 5th wicket. Labuschagne also composed to reach half-century
off 94 balls. Dawid Malan and Joe Root took wickets as the Australian batters scored
quick runs. Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green kept hitting runs with both adding
36 runs for the 8th wicket. Jhye Richardson perished caught by
Buttler as Steve Smith declared innings with a massive total of 230 for 9 with
a massive lead of 467 runs.
Haseeb Hameed's poor form continued as Jhye Richardson
produced a beauty. Mitchell Starc bowled at pace and troubled Malan and Burns.
At the end of the 2nd session, England made 20 for 1.
The third session began with Malan and Burns showing solid
defensive technique. Steve Smith dropped a simple chance at slips. Soon after, Neser
dismissed Malan with good delivery. Malan and Burns added 44 runs for the 2nd
wicket. England captain Root and Burns kept the Australian bowlers at bay with
solid technique. Jhye Richardson took his 2nd wicket to dismiss Rory
Burns caught by Smith. Mitchell Starc produced a cracking delivery before
producing a stunning delivery to get rid of Root in the final over of the day
to leave England struggling big time. On the other hand, Stokes remained solid.
