BWF World Championship 2021: Historic moment for Indian badminton

Despite Kidambi Srikanth losing the final against Loh of Singapore, it was history created as two Indian shuttlers made it into the podium of BWF World Championship 2021 played at Carolina Marin Stadium, Huelva on Sunday.

The Indian started looking nervous in the initial stages trailing by 1-3. After that, Srikanth made a strong surge with successive points to take a 9-3 lead. It was a superb display of badminton by the Indian producing half-smashes and cross-court smashes to take an 11-7 lead at the interval. Loh made a strong comeback taking four successive points in successive leveling scores at 11-11. The Singapore player dominated the rallies and kept pressure with a commanding lead. It was an aggressive display of badminton by Loh to win the first game easily at 21-15.

It was a superb beginning for Srikanth in the 2nd game also taking the initial 3-2 lead and then made it 9-6 with smashes putting Singapore player under pressure. Loh did not panic taking points in succession to take an 11-9 lead at the interval. Srikanth made a strong comeback to level the score at 14-14. With the Indian looking to make a comeback, he committed unforced errors. Loh then took advantage of the nervousness of Srikanth and raced to a 20-18 lead. Srikanth leveled the score at 20-20 before Loh took 2 points in succession winning the match 22-20 to become World Championship.
