India versus South Africa 1st Test 1st Day: India in a commanding position
The Indian Cricket Team put on a superb batting display to end the 1st day of the 1st Test match against South Africa in control played at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Sunday.
Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat
first. It was a cautious start by the Indian openers as they left deliveries
against Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngiidi. After the initial spell, Mayank Agarwal
looked in decent touch putting the poor balls to the boundaries of Marco Jansen.
Mayank Agarwal hit 3 boundaries leaving South Africa struggling. The Indian
openers took the advantage and kept the momentum.
After the first drinks break, Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul
kept the scoreboard ticking. Mayank Agarwal was dropped by Quinton de Kock as the
ball was going straight into the hands of Dean Elgar. Rabada and Marco Jansen
troubled Indian openers with close shouts. It was a superb batting effort by
the Indian openers as they scored 83 for 0 at the end of the first session.
The second session began well for India as Mayank Agarwal
looked positive and completed fifty off 89 balls. KL Rahul also played with
intent leaving the good deliveries. The Indian openers survived a few anxious
moments. Lungi Ngidi got rid of Mayank Agarwal via review for LBW. The umpire
gave not out and on review, it was overturned to out as it was hitting the
stumps. Mayank Agarwal and Rahul added 117 runs for the opening wicket. Ngidi
dismissed Pujara off the very next ball taking inside edge to Petersen. KL
Rahul looked in decent touch hitting the bad deliveries for boundaries reaching
his fifty off 127 balls.
South African captain Dean Elgar decided to bring Keshav
Maharaj into the attack and bowled decent lines. KL Rahul survived a close
shout as Jansen could not hold catch. Wiaan Mulder bowled with control and ensured
that India ended the second session at 157 for 2.
KL Rahul and Kohli showed rock-solid defense against South
African pacers. It was a brilliant effort by the Indian batters to hit bad
deliveries for boundaries. Ngidi finally broke through getting rid of Indian
captain Kohli caught by Mulder. Kohli and Rahul added 82 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
Ajiyanka Rahane looked edgy with few misses and the ball falling
short of the fielders. Rahul completed well complied century off 218 balls. The
South African captain Elgar decided to take the 2nd new ball immediately
but Rahul and Rahane kept calm. It was a brilliant batting effort as India
ended the first day in a strong position at 272 for 3.
