Indian Test squad announced for South Africa tour
The Board of Cricket Control for India announced a strong squad to face South Africa in the 3 match Test series starting from 26th December at Centurion.
Despite Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel being ruled out of the
series due to injuries, the Indian team looks solid with the likes of KL Rahul,
Rohit Sharma, and Mayank Agarwal as openers. The middle-order comprises Pujara, out of form Rahane, Hanuma Vihari returns to the squad who has been in superb form during
the 3 unofficial matches against South Africa A.
The Indian team batting looks promising with the likes of Shreyas
Iyer who made his Test debut for India during the recently concluded home Test
series against New Zealand. The South Africa tour will mark the return of Rishabh Pant
who was rested during the whole series against the Kiwis. Wriddhiman Saha also has
been included as the second wicketkeeper.
Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj,
Shardul Thakur comprise of fast bowling department. Bumrah, Shami, Shardul
Thakur are making a comeback into the team after being given a rest during the
home series against New Zealand. Shardul Thakur has performed well with both
and ball in recent times.
The ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been in
sensational form during 2021 so far and would be looking to prove his mettle
in overseas conditions especially with Ravindra Jadeja being ruled out. Jayant
Yadav has been included as the second spinner. He made a comeback into India’s
Test during the recent match against New Zealand at Mumbai.
It promises to be a brilliant series between the number 1
ranked Test side. The 3 match Test series will feature for the second cycle of
the ICC Test Championship. India is currently 3rd in the standings
while South Africa will begin their journey with this series.
India will begin the first Test match from 26th
December at Centurion, with the 2nd Test match to be played at
Johannesburg from 3rd January and then the final match to be played
from 11th January 2022 at Cape Town.
