Under 19 Asia Cup 2021: India thrash Sri Lanka to retain the title
The Indian Under 19 Cricket Team produced a dominating display to defeat Sri Lanka in one-sided rain-curtailed finals played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Friday.
Sri Lankan captain Dinuth Wellage won the toss and decided
to bat first. The decision did not pay off as Ravi Kumar and Hangekakar took advantage
of the conditions. After the initial run-out miss, Ravi Kumar struck for India
dismissing Chamindu Wickramasinghe caught by Raj Bawa at third man. It was a disciplined
bowling effort by the Indian pacers not allowing Sri Lankan batters to score
runs easily. Sri Lanka could only manage 15 runs in the first 10 overs.
Bawa made the breakthrough getting rid of Daniel caught by
Aaradhya to leave Sri Lanka struggling. Kaushal Tambe and Ostwal kept the
pressure on the opposition with disciplined bowling. Tambe and Ostwal reduced
the Lankan team to 57 for 7. Raveen de Silva and Rodrigo showed some resistance
against the Indian bowling line before the rain arrived with the scoreboard reading 74 for
7.
Soon after the rain delay break, a direct throw by Shaik
Rasheed ended the innings for de Silva. De Silva and Rodrigo added 25 runs for
the 8th wicket. Matheesha Pathirana and Rodrigo added some vital
runs in the final over to help Sri Lanka cross past 100 runs mark. Sri Lanka posted
106 for 9 in 38 overs.
Chasing a revised target of 102 runs, the Indian team lost an
early wicket of Harnoor Singh. The Sri Lankan bowlers kept Indian openers
struggling to create chances but could not grab them. Raghuvanshi and Shaik Rasheed
looked comfortable against the Lankan bowlers. At the end of the first
powerplay overs, the Indian team kept the pressure on the opposition. Raghuvanshi and Rasheed
milked Lankan bowlers hitting boundaries off bad deliveries maintain momentum. Raghuvanshi
struggling in the entire tournament completed his half-century off 64 balls.
The young Indian opener finished the match with a boundary to help the Indian Under 19
team win the match by 9 wickets. Raghuvanshi and Rasheed added unbeaten 96 runs
for the 2nd wicket.
India Under 19 104 for 1 in 21.3 overs ( Raghuvanshi 56*,
Shaik Rasheed 31*, Yasiru Rodrigo 1/12) beat Sri Lanka Under 19 106 for 9 in 38
overs ( Rodrigo 19*, Ostwal 3/11, Tambe 2/23) by 9 wickets via DLS method.
