Under 19 Asia Cup 2021: India to face Sri Lanka in the finals
The Defending Champions India produced a dominating display to defeat Bangladesh in the second semi-finals of the Under 19 Asia Cup played at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah on Thursday.
Bangladesh captain Rakibul Hasan won the toss and decided to
field first. It was a cautious start for Indian openers as Harnoor Singh and
Raghuvanshi before Hasan Sakib dismissed inform Harnoor Singh. The Indian team
struggled against disciplined Bangladeshi bowling. The Indian captain Yash
Dhull came to the crease and put pressure back on the opposition bowlers with
attacking strokes.
On the other hand, Shaik Rasheed kept the momentum going for
Team India reaching fifty off 76 balls. Dhull and Shaik added 41 runs for the 4th
wicket. Raj Bawa kept the momentum going for the Team along with Shaik putting on valuable
runs. In the last few overs, Rajvardhan Hangargekar's quickfire cameo and Vicky
Ostwal's brilliance along with Shaik Rasheed 90 not out helped India post a competitive
total of 243 for 8 in 50 overs.
In reply, Tahjibul Islam and Mahfijul Islam started off
brightly putting on 31 runs for the opening wicket in quick time. Raj Bawa and
Ravi Kumar rattled the Bangladesh batting line-up to reduce opposition to 50
for 4. It was a superb bowling effort by Indian bowlers never allowing the
Bangladeshi batters to score runs easily. Apart from Ariful Islam 42, none of the Bangladeshi batters scored runs. Ravi Kumar, Raj Bawa, Hangakerkar, Ostwal grabbed
2 wickets each while Sindhu and Kaushal Tambe grabbed 1 wicket each. The Indian
Under 19 team registered an emphatic 103 runs win to move into their 8th
Asia Cup finals.
India Under 19 243 for 8 in 50 overs (Shaik Rasheed 90*, Vicky
Ostwal 28*, Rakibul Hasan 3/41) beat Bangladesh Under 19 140 in 38.2 overs (
Ariful Islam 42, Mahfiul Islam 26, Ravi Kumar 2/22, Ostwal 2/25) by 103 runs.
Sri Lanka Under 19 Team defeated Pakistan team in the first
semi-finals during a low scoring match played at ICC Academy, Dubai. Sri Lankan
captain Dinuth Wellage won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision did
not pay off as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals right from the
word go to be reduced at 70 for 8.
Yasiru Rodrigo and Pathirana steadied the ship for Sri Lanka
putting on a superb display adding 47 runs for the 9th wicket.
Treveen Mathew and Rodrigo added another 30 runs for the final wicket to help
Sri Lanka post 147 in 44.5 overs. Rodrigo remained not out on 31 while Pathirana
also made 31.
It was a superb bowling effort by the Lankan bowlers as Treveen
Mathews broke the backbone of Pakistan batting taking the first 3 wickets. Despite
Muhammad Shahazad and Ahmed Khan's efforts, Pakistan fell short of the target by
22 runs.
Sri Lanka Under 19 147 in 44.5 overs ( Rodrigo 31*, Pathirana
31, Zeeshan Zameer 4/32) beat Pakistan Under 19 125 in 49.3 overs ( Ahmed Khan
36, Muhammad Shahzad 30, Treeven Mathews 4/14, Dunith Wellage 3/31) by 22 runs.
India Under 19 will take on Sri Lanka in the finals to be
played on 31st December at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai.
India Under 19 Team qualified for the finals with a commanding 103 runs win over Bangladesh
