Another thrilling Test match at SCG
The fourth Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground between arch-rivals England and Australia ended in a thrilling draw on the final day of the Ashes series played on Sunday.
Starting on the overnight score of 30 for 0, it was a shaky
start for England as they lost an early wicket of Haseeb Hameed for just 9
runs. Crawley and Haseeb Hameed added 46 runs for the opening wicket. Zak
Crawley looked in decent touch timing ball brilliantly completing his fifty off
69 balls. Nathan Lyon got rid of Dawid Malan to leave England struggling. Cameron
Green produced a superb yorker to dismiss well-set Crawley. England captain Joe
Root and Stokes steadied the England innings before the rain arrived at 122 for 3.
With this, the umpires called lunch.
After the rain delay, Root and Stokes looked composed facing top-quality pace bowling of Australia. Scott Boland provided a much-needed dismissing
Joe Root taking the edge straight to Carey. Root and Stokes added 60 runs for
the 4th wicket. Alex Carey missed a run-out chance while taking the
second run to dismiss Bairstow. Stokes and Bairstow looked composed making life
tough for Australian bowlers. At the end of the 2nd session, England
made 174 for 4.
It was a good start for the England team in the final session as
Stokes completed his fifty off 107 balls. Bairstow and Stokes looked solid with
their defense making sure that visitors frustrate Aussie’s bowlers. Lyon
eventually struck for Australia getting rid of Stokes providing a simple catch to
Smith at slips. Stokes and Bairstow added 37 runs for the 5th
wicket. The Australian captain Pat Cummins took the 2nd new ball immediately.
Cummins made second new ball talk taking past the edge of Buttler and Bairstow.
Cummins struck twice off successive deliveries getting the wicket
of Buttler via review for LBW. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was
overturned to out. He then produced a brilliant yorker to get rid of Mark Wood
to leave England struggling.
Bairstow and Jack Leach provided some solid resistance
before Boland struck getting rid of Bairstow taking the inside edge to Labuschagne leaving
Australia on brink of a win. With 10.2 overs left, Leach and Stuart Broad remained
solid with their defense technique. Steve Smith did the job for Australia dismissing
Leach caught by Warner. Stuart Broad and James Anderson survived the last 12 balls to
help England a thrilling draw.
It was a superb performance by both teams. After winning the
toss, Australia posted a massive total of 416 for 8 thanks to brilliant knocks
by Usman Khawaja and all-around contributions. In reply, Bairstow and Stokes scored
