India versus South Africa 3rd Test 2nd Day: Honours even
It was another brilliant day of Test cricket as both teams showed great character played at Newlands, Cape Town on Wednesday.
Jasprit Bumrah began the second day on a perfect note for the Indian team getting rid of Aiden Markram as he tried to leave the delivery
hitting stumps. Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah troubled Keegan Petersen and
Keshav Maharaj without any luck. KL Rahul dropped a tough chance to get the
wicket of Petersen. After the initial spell, Umesh Yadav was bought into the attack
and rattled nightwatchman Keshav Maharaj’s middle stump. Keegan Petersen and
Rassie Van der Dussen looked confident with their strokes putting the bad
deliveries for boundaries.
Petersen and Van der Dussen showed intent in keeping the
scoreboard ticking. The Indian bowlers troubled both South African batters but
could not go past edge. South Africa went into lunch break at 100 for 3.
After the lunch break, Petersen and Dussen continued their
intent making life tough for the Indian bowlers. Rassie van der Dussen was
given a reprieve twice for both runouts. Umesh Yadav struck getting rid of Dussen
caught by Kohli. Dussen and Petersen added 67 runs for the 4th
wicket. Keegan Petersen looked impressive completing his second successive
fifty off 101 balls. Temba Bavuma also played with a lot of authority as Indian
bowlers kept tight lines and lengths. Mohammed Shami struck twice in one over
getting wickets of Bavuma with a lovely catch by Kohli and then Verryne to lead
India’s comeback. Bavuma and Petersen added 47 runs for the 5th
wicket. Bumrah and Shami troubled Marco Jansen with lovely deliveries. Right at the stroke of tea break, Bumrah produced a stunning delivery to get the wicket of
Jansen to leave South Africa struggling at 176 for 7.
It was a superb start for India in the third session as
Bumrah struck to get rid of well-set Keegan Petersen caught by Pujara. Kagiso
Rabada and Oliver provided some resistance before Thakur got the wicket of
Rabada. After a few narrow misses, Bumrah dismissed Lungi Ngidi taking leading
edge to Ashwin at extra cover to bowl out South Africa for 210 with a slender
lead of 13 runs.
In reply, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started off brightly
before the South African pace battery grabbed both openers. The Indian captain
