Stats: Perth Scorchers becomes most successful team in BBL
Perth Scorchers continued their domination as they registered an emphatic win over Sydney Sixers in the finals of BBL 11 played at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne on Friday.
Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss and
decided to field first. The decision paid off for Sixers as Jackson Bird got
the early breakthrough dismissing Kurtis Pattinson. Perth scored 14 runs at the
end of the first four overs.
Veteran spinners Steve O Keefe grabbed dangerous Josh Inglis
stumped while Nathan Lyon took wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Colin Munro to leave
Perth in tatters at 25 for 4. Perth Ashton Turner and Laurie Evans steadied the
ship for Perth with sensible hitting making life tough for the opposition. Both experienced
batters put Perth on course as they kept on the pressure. Evans completed
his fifty off 25 balls while Turner reached his half-century off 32 balls. In the power surge, Perth scored 24 runs
without losing any wickets.
The experienced O Keefe got the breakthrough dismissing
Turner caught by Hughes. Turner and Evans added 104 runs for the 5th
wicket. Ashton Agar provided quickfire runs before being dismissed by Kerr. Evans
showed his class in the final over to help Perth post 171 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 172 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for
Sydney Sixers as they lost an early wicket of inform Hayden Kerr. Nicolas
Bertus and Daniel Hughes steadied the ship Sydney made 26 runs for 1 wicket at
the end of the first four overs.
Apart from Hughes 42 none of the Sydney Sixers batters could
not contribute as Perth bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals.
Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson were the pick of the bowlers for Perth. Jhye
Richardson ended the innings dismissing injured Steve O Keefe to bowl out
Sydney Sixers for a paltry total of 92 runs.
With this win, Perth Scorchers becomes the most successful
team in BBL history winning the title four times.
Perth Scorchers had a dominating 2021-22 BBL season topping
the groups stage with 11 wins and 3 losses including 7 bash points. They
defeated Sydney Sixers in the qualifier reaching the finals directly before producing
their best performance.
Perth Scorchers won their maiden BBL title in the 2013/14
season and then defended their title in 2014/15. Then they registered their 3rd
trophy during the 2016/17 season.
For his unbeaten 76 off 41 balls, Laurie Evans was awarded
the man of the match.
Perth Scorchers becomes the most successful team in BBL history with a record fourth title defeating Sydney Sixers by resounding 79 runs.
