Under 19 World Cup 2022: India Under 19 moves into the quarterfinals with a massive win

The Indian Under 19 team showed their dominance as they registered a resounding win in their second Group match against Ireland played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad, and Tobago on Wednesday.

Ireland captain Tim Tector won the toss and decided to field first. The Indian team was without their captain Yash Dhull and six other players as they were tested positive. It was an aggressive start by the Indian openers as Harnoor Singh and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put the Ireland bowlers right from the word go. They kept hitting boundaries at will making life tough for the opposition. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian openers raced away to 68 for 0.

After the field restrictions, Singh and Raghuvanshi never looked back maintaining the momentum for the Indian team. It was a dominating display by Indian openers as Raghuvanshi reached his fifty off 42 balls while Harnoor Singh gave him good support. Harnoor Singh upped the ante and completed his half-century too off 56 balls. Ireland finally struck as Cox took a sharp catch to dismiss Raghuvanshi for a well-made 79. The Indian openers raced away for brilliant 164 runs opening partnership laying a strong foundation.

Raj Bawa joined in with Singh and maintained the momentum for India. Harnoor Singh's brilliant innings ended being dismissed by Humphreys. Bawa and Singh put on 31 runs for the 2nd wicket. Stand-in captain Nishant Sandhu played with intent keeping the momentum going on. Muzamil Sherzad kept his calm taking wickets of Sandhu, Raj Bawa, and Kaushal Tambe in quick succession to the steam flow of runs. Sandhu and Bawa added 64 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Rajvardhan Hangarkekar provided a much-needed impetus for Team India with a breath-taking 39 not out off 17 balls with 1 four and 5 sixes including 23 runs in the last over. Thanks to his brilliant knock, the Indian team posted a massive total of 307 for 5.

In reply, the Ireland batters were never in the hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian bowlers gave away just 25 runs and took 3 important wickets. Joshua Cox and Scott Macbeth provided some resistance to the Ireland team. Macbeth and McGuire put on 39 runs for the 7th wicket. It was a one-sided affair as the Indian team registered a 174 runs win.

India Under 19 307 for 5 in 50 overs (Harnoor Singh 88, Raghuvanshi 79, Muzamil Sherzad 3/79) beat Ireland Under 19 133 in 39 overs ( Scott Macbeth 32, Cox 28, Kaushal Tambe 2/8, Aneeshwar Gautam 2/11) by 174 runs.
