ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 Semi-finals 1: Dominating performance by Australian team

 The Australian Cricket Team continued registered a dominating win over West Indies in the first semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on Wednesday.

With the match reduced to 45 overs a side, West Indies Stefanie Taylor won the toss and decided to field first. It was a steady start by Australian openers Alyssa Healy and Haynes keeping the pressure back on the West Indies' bowling line-up. At the end of the first powerplay reduced to 9 overs, Australia scored 37 for 0.

The Australian openers put enough pressure on the West Indies bowlers with attacking strokes and did not allow them to settle. Anisa Mohammed went off field injuring herself while fielding. Healy and Haynes put them under immense pressure. Haynes completed fifty off 66 balls while Healy reached half-century off 63 balls.

West Indies catching was not up to the mark allowing Healy and Haynes to keep pressure on the opposition bowlers. The Australian openers showed their class making life tough for West Indies. Alyssa Healy completed her century off 91 balls maintaining the momentum. Healy upped the ante for Australia and hit boundaries at will. A good diving catch by Selman ended the for Healy. Healy and Haynes added 216 runs partnership laying strong foundation.

Henry dismissed Haynes with a simple catch to Dottin. The West Indies bowling provided some spark as Henry got the wicket of Gardner. Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney showed their intent to keep the scoreboard ticking with singles and hitting boundaries. Connell bowled a brilliant 45th over but Mooney and Lanning added unbeaten 69 runs for the 4th wicket. Australian women posted 305 for 3 in 45 overs.

In reply, Dottin began the innings with a lovely boundary. Rashada Williams was brilliantly caught by Beth Mooney. Dottin put some pressure on the Australian bowling line-up. At the end of the first powerplay overs, West Indies scored 39 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Dottin was dismissed with an easy catch to Sutherland at long-on. Dottin and Mathews added 32 runs for the 2nd wicket. Hayley Mathews and captain Taylor were not able to keep the required run rate going against disciplined Australian bowling. Jess Jonassen dismissed Mathews providing an easy catch to King. Mathews and Taylor added 47 runs for the 3rd wicket. It was a tall ask for the West Indies batting line-up as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Taylor remained steady and was the last batter out. Anisa Mohammed and Henry did not bat due to injuries.

Australian women registered a 157 runs win and qualified for the finals. They showed their class so far winning all their matches so far.

Australian women 305 for 3 in 45 overs ( Healy 129, Haynes 85, Henry 2/51) beat West Indies women 148 in 37 overs ( Taylor 48, Dottin 34, Jess Jonassen 2/14) by 157 runs.

For her 129 off 107 balls, Healy was awarded the player of the match.
