IPL 2022 Match 31: Faf du Plessis and Josh Hazlewood helps RCB register comfortable win
Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their winning form as they defeated Lucknow Super Giants comfortably in a high-scoring match played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul won the toss and
decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Dushmanta Chameera dismissed
Anuj Rawat with a lovely catch by KL Rahul and then got rid of Virat Kohli without
opening his account in the first over. Glenn Maxwell looked in decent touch
right from the word go putting pressure on LSG bowlers. On other hand, Du
Plessis took some time to settle. Krunal Pandya got the wicket of Maxwell
trying to reverse sweep caught by Holder. Maxwell and du Plessis added 37 runs
for the 3rd wicket. At the end of the first six overs, RCB made 47 for
3.
After the field restrictions, Prabhudessai showed intent in hitting Ravi Bishnoi for a six off a free hit. LSG struck again as Holder got
rid of Prabhudessai with a simple catch to Krunal Pandya to leave RCB in
trouble at 62 for 4. Shahbaz Ahmed and du Plessis kept rotating the strike. At
the end of the first timeout, RCB ended at 79 for 4.
Du Plessis and Shahbaz kept the scoreboard ticking hitting
boundaries and taking singles. Du Plessis looked calm completing fifty off 40
balls. Du Plessis upped the ante with lovely shots while Shahbaz Ahmed gave him
good support. A superb throw by Rahul and a gather by Holder resulted in the
run-out of Shahbaz Ahmed. Du Plessis and Shahbaz Ahmed added 70 runs for the 5th
wicket. With that wicket, the second timeout was called at 132 for 5.
Du Plessis kept the pressure on the LSG bowlers with monster
hits keeping the scoreboard ticking. LSG catching was not great as they dropped
RCB batsmen twice. Holder bowled a great final over picking the wicket of du
Plessis. Du Plessis and Karthik added 49 runs for the 6th wicket. At
the end of 20 overs, RCB posted 181 for 6.
Chasing 182 runs to win, de Kock and KL Rahul began well
before Hazlewood produced a stunning delivery getting rid of de Kock with an
easy catch by Maxwell at first slips. Hazlewood troubled Manish Pandey with
bouncers making life tough for LSG batsmen. Soon after, Hazlewood dismissed
Pandey providing a simple catch to Harshal Patel. Krunal Pandya looked in decent
touch putting pressure on RCB bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, LSG
scored 44 for 2.
Rahul and Krunal Pandya kept the momentum going for LSG.
Harshal Patel dismissed Rahul with a review for caught behind down the leg. The
umpires gave not out but RCB decided to review the decision and was given out
as there was a little edge. Rahul and Krunal Pandya added 31 runs for the 3rd
wicket. At the end of the first timeout, LSG made 72 for 3.
Krunal Pandya looked in brilliant touch taking on Hasaranga
putting pressure on RCB with the required run rate climbing. Siraj dismissed Deepak
Hooda with a lovely catch by Prabhudessai. Hooda and Krunal Pandya added 36 runs
for the 4th wicket. Maxwell was bought into the attack getting rid
of Krunal caught by Shahbaz Ahmed.
RCB bowlers did not allow Ayush Badoni to hit his favorite
shots. At the end of the second timeout, LSG scored 128 for 5. Hazlewood produced a magical effort getting the wicket of Badoni. Stoinis tried his best to launch
but RCB bowlers tied Holder and Stoinis to hit big shots. Hazlewood then
dismissed Marcus Stoinis to end LSG's hopes of winning. Holder provided some entertainment
caught by Siraj at fine leg. It was a superb bowling effort as RCB registered
18 runs win.
RCB 181 for 6 in 20 overs ( du Plessis 96, Shahbaz Ahmed 26,
Chameera 2/31) beat LSG 163 for 8 in 20 overs ( Krunal Pandya 42, KL Rahul 30,
Hazlewood 4/25) by 18 runs.
For his 96 off 64 balls, Faf du Plessis was awarded the man
of the match. With this win, RCB moved to 2nd place with 5 wins.
