IPL 2022 Match 32: Delhi Capitals register massive win over PBKS
Delhi Capitals returned to winning ways as they defeated Punjab Kings in a one-sided affair played at Brabourne Stadium, CCI, Mumbai on Wednesday.
DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field
first. Mayank Agarwal looked in decent touch putting pressure on Delhi Capitals
bowlers right from the word go. Lalit Yadav struck the opening blow getting rid
of Dhawan caught by Pant. Soon after, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Mayank
Agarwal with decent delivery to put PBKS on the backfoot. Liam Livingstone could
not resist the temptation and was stumped by Pant. At the end of the first six
overs, PBKS made 47 for 3.
Delhi Capitals bowlers kept it tight not allowing PBKS
batsmen to score runs easily. Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Jonny Bairstow caught by
Rahman. Jitesh Sharma looked in decent touch while Sharukh Khan struggled with
his timing. At the end of the first timeout, PBKS scored 69 for 4.
After the timeout, Axar got the wicket of Jitesh Sharma to
leave PBKS under immense pressure. Jitesh Sharma decided to review the decision for
LBW, but the decision was retained due to the umpire’s call. Jitesh Sharma and Sharukh added
31 runs for the 5th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Kagiso Rabada
and Nathan Ellis with stunning deliveries to leave PBKS in tatters. Sharukh Khan’s
struggle came to end caught by Pant. With that wicket, the second timeout was called
at 92 for 8.
Rahul Chahar provided some entertainment before Lalit Yadav
got him caught by Powell. Arshdeep Singh and Vaibhav Arora tried to score runs
but Delhi Capitals bowlers made life tough for PBKS batsmen skittling out
Punjab Kings for 115 in 20 overs.
Chasing a modest total of 116 runs to win, Prithvi Shaw began
the innings on an aggressive note putting pressure on PBKS bowlers right from
the word go. Warner got into the act with aggressive shots not allowing them to
settle. Shaw and Warner kept on hitting boundaries at will keeping the
scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals' openers raced
away to 81 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.
Rahul Chahar got the breakthrough by dismissing Shaw providing an easy catch to Ellis. Shaw and Warner added 83 runs. Warner took the charge
keeping the momentum going for Delhi Capitals. Warner showed intent completing
fifty off 26 balls. Sarfraz Khan came to bat at number 3 giving good support to
Warner. Warner hit the winning runs with a boundary helping Delhi Capitals
register a resounding 9 wicket win.
Delhi Capitals 119 for 1 in 10.3 overs (Warner 60*, Shaw 41,
Chahar 1/21) beat Punjab Kings 115 in 20 overs ( Jitesh Sharma 32, Mayank
Agarwal 24, Axar Patel 2/10, Kuldeep Yadav 2/24) by 9 wickets.
For his 2 for 24 in 4 overs, Kuldeep Yadav was named the man
of the match award. They registered their third win of the tournament.
