IPL 2022 Match 39: Riyan Parag and bowlers lead RR to an impressive win
Rajasthan Royals showed their character as they defeated RCB in a low-scoring match played at MCA Stadium, Pune on Tuesday.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to field
first. Mohammed Siraj got the wicket of Paddikal with a lovely delivery giving
LBW out. Paddikal reviewed the decision, and it was retained as out. Siraj got
the wicket of Ashwin promoted at number 3 but provided a simple return catch to
leave RR on the backfoot. Josh Hazlewood dismissed inform Buttler making life tough
for RR. At the end of the first six overs, RR scored 43 for 3.

looked out of sorts along with Samson. At the end of the first timeout, RR made 67
for 3.
Hasaranga got the big wicket of Samson trying to reverse sweep
castling the stumps. Samson and Mitchell added 35 runs for the 4th
wicket. Riyan Parag and Mitchell struggled to put enough pressure on RCB bowling.
Hazlewood dismissed Daryl Mitchell caught by Maxwell leaving RR in trouble.
Parag and Mitchell added 31 runs for the 5th wicket. With that
wicket, RR made 99 for 5.
RCB bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals to dent
RR's progress. Hasaranga dropped a simple chance to get rid of Parag. Parag then
took the charge putting enough pressure on RCB bowlers completing fifty off 29
balls. He smashed 18 runs in the final over to help RR post 144 for 8. Prasidh
Krishna was dropped by Dinesh Karthik but gave most of the strike to Parag.
Chasing 145 runs to win, Virat Kohli looked edgy in the
first over against Boult. He was eventually dismissed by Krishna trying to pull
caught by Parag at backward point. Du Plessis looked in decent touch putting
enough pressure on RR bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 37 for
1.
Kuldeep Sen struck twice in his first over getting wickets
of du Plessis and then Maxwell to leave RCB in trouble. Rajat Patidar looked
decent enough while Shahbaz Ahmed struggled. At the end of the first timeout, RCB scored
55 for 3.
Ashwin struck to dismiss Patidar leaving RCB in trouble. The
pressure mounted on the RCB batsmen as Prabhudessai was caught by Parag at long-on.
Dinesh Karthik was run-out as Chahal dropped the ball before hitting the stumps.
With that wicket, RCB ended at 72 for 6.
Shahbaz Ahmed struggled against RR bowlers with the required run
rate climbing. He was brilliantly caught by Parag at long-on to leave RCB in
massive trouble. Hasaranga provided some spark before Kuldeep Sen produced a
superb delivery with a simple return catch.
RR bowlers kept on piling the pressure on RCB batsmen as
they could only muster 115. It was a superb bowling effort by RR to put consistent
lines and lengths.
RR 144 for 8 in 20 overs ( Parag 56*, Samson 27, Hazlewood
2/19, Hasaranga 2/23) beat RCB 115 in 19.3 overs ( du Plessis 23, Hasaranga 18,
Kuldeep Sen 4/20, Ashwin 3/17) by 29 runs.
For his unbeaten 56 off 31 balls and 4 catches, Riyan Parag was
named the man of the match award. With this win, RR moves to the top of the points
table.
